Port Royal is the shortest course on the PGA Tour, yet the Atlantic wind turns it into one of the most unpredictable tests of the fall.

Quick take:

  • Outright pick: Seamus Power +2450
  • Why: The 2022 champion has made all six cuts at Port Royal, and a breezy forecast shrinks the edge of the rookie favorite.
  • The number to watch: 25 mph, the sustained wind forecast through Saturday.

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship runs October 22-25 at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, a par-71 Robert Trent Jones Sr. design that stretches just 6,828 yards. The purse is $6 million, the winner takes home 500 FedExCup points, and a 120-player field is chasing status in the FedExCup Fall standings. It is not a strong group: no one in the field ranks inside the top 50 of the world rankings, and the highest-ranked player is Corey Conners.

Length is not the defense here. The four par 3s averaged 3.20 strokes last year, the fourth-toughest group on Tour, and the 16th plays roughly 230 yards from a clifftop over the ocean. Defending champion Adam Schenk won at 12 under last year in gusts that reached 40 mph, and nobody has ever won this event twice.

A Rookie Favorite and a Flat Board Behind Him

Ben James is the clear favorite at +1175 on DraftKings, with some books closer to +1000, which is a short price for a rookie chasing his first Tour win in a wind-driven event. His form is hard to argue with: three straight top-fives, four top-fives in his last six starts, and a closing 61 at the Wyndham Championship. He also leads this field in strokes gained tee-to-green over the last three months. The problem is that he has never played Port Royal, and course knowledge matters more here than a hot streak.

The market behind him is flat. Conners sits at +2350, Power at +2450, Chris Kirk at +2500, and Andrew Novak and Ben Kohles at +2700. If you are shopping for the best number, compare lines across the major apps, including the FanDuel promo code offer if you are new to that book. History says the favorite is rarely the answer: six of the last seven winners ranked outside the top 120 in the Data Golf rankings, and four were outside the top 300.

Contenders to Watch

Top contenders entering the Butterfield Bermuda Championship (DraftKings odds)
PlayerOddsRecent Form
Ben James+1175Three straight top-fives; no prior Port Royal starts
Corey Conners+2350Highest-ranked player in the field
Seamus Power+24502022 champion; six cuts made in six tries here
Andrew Novak+2700Runner-up here in 2024; T7 at the Wyndham
Taylor Pendrith+3300Holds the course record of 61; T5 in 2022, T8 in 2023

The scoring range tells the story. Winners have gone as low as 24 under in calm years and as high as 12 under last year, so the forecast of sustained breezes to 25 mph through Saturday, with rain likely on Sunday, points toward the tougher end of that range. That is why a putting-heavy, course-savvy veteran is a better fit than a ball-striker who has never seen the greens.

Value Play and Sleeper Pick

Power is the player who best fits the profile. He won here in 2022 at 19 under, finished T11 last year, and has never missed a cut at Port Royal. He ranks 11th on Tour in strokes gained putting, which helps if the wind stays calm, and his low, controlled ball flight holds up when it does not. At +2450 to win, he is the outright play.

For a top-20 angle, Novak is the sharper name. He was runner-up three shots behind Rafael Campos in 2024, owns a T17 from 2022, and won the 2025 Zurich Classic. Pendrith is another course-history play: he has averaged about 2.35 strokes gained per round at this event and holds the record 61.

Six of the last seven winners here ranked outside the top 120 in the Data Golf rankings, so the true price on a favorite is higher than it looks.

For the sleeper, look at Vince Whaley. He has not cracked the top 40 since March, but he has finished T8 or better in four straight years in Bermuda, and he is priced at +8200 to win.

That kind of course form is the whole argument this week.

This Week’s Best Bets

The card leans on proven Port Royal results over recent headlines. Power is the outright because of his win, his clean cut record, and his putting. Novak covers the top-20 market on the strength of his 2024 runner-up and his T17 in 2022. Whaley is a long shot with a clear history of showing up on this island, and a big finish from a player at that price is worth a small stake.

  1. Outright: Seamus Power +2450
  2. Top-10/Top-20: Andrew Novak to finish top 20 (shop the number; he is +2700 to win)
  3. Sleeper: Vince Whaley +8200
