Chevron Championship Betting Breakdown: Finding Value Beyond Korda

Nelly Korda headlines at +500 but the Chevron Championship course profile and current form data point to Hannah Green at +1600 and a triple-digit longshot worth a small position.

The Chevron Championship tees off April 23-26 at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas — the first women’s major of 2026 — and the market has installed Nelly Korda as a heavy +500 favorite. The case for Korda is not hard to make: she won this event in 2024, has four top-3 results in her last five starts here, and has finished in the top 3 in each of her last five LPGA starts in 2026 (one win plus three runners-up). But at 5/1, the market is not giving you value. It is giving you Korda exposure on a course that will punish specific player profiles — and where several overlooked players have the profile to beat her.

Why the Course Profile Changes Everything

Memorial Park is not your typical major setup. Wide fairways reduce the penalty for slight misses off the tee, and the rough is negligible — which means the traditional major advantage of ball-striking control is partially neutralized. What Memorial Park does reward is driving distance. With narrow scoring margins separating the field in a distance-favored layout, players who can overpower the course with length gain a structural edge. This makes course-profile analysis the most important filter before building any ticket. Two players near the bottom of the LPGA in driving distance — Miyu Yamashita (157th out of 161 on tour) and Jin Young Ko — are both listed with inviting prices. Yamashita sits at +2200 and Jin Young Ko at +10000. Do not touch either number. Wrong course, wrong player. The price is irrelevant when the fundamental fit is not there.

Korda: Elite Form, Compressed Value

Korda’s 2026 has been exceptional. Three runners-up and a win in five starts is a pace that very few players in the history of the sport can match. Her four top-3 results at this specific course make her a legitimate favorite — not a manufactured one. The concern is purely mathematical. At +500, you are laying significant chalk on a player who is 2-for-47 in major championships over her career. Two wins in 47 major appearances is not an alarming number — major wins are rare — but it does contextualize the risk of treating her as a near-lock at this price. The better players who are close to Korda in form are available at multiples of her odds.

Hannah Green at +1600: The Value Play

Hannah Green is the most compelling number on the board. She has won four times in 2026, including the JM Eagle LA Championship last week — a victory that came in a playoff against Sei Young Kim, proving she can close under pressure against elite competition. That is not a cold streak that happened to end with a win; it is a player operating at the peak of her abilities right now. Hot streaks in golf are real and measurable, and Green’s current form trajectory is arguably the strongest on the entire LPGA Tour heading into this week. At +1600, you are getting a four-time 2026 winner at more than three times the price of a player (Korda) she has every statistical argument to match or exceed.

Hyo Joo Kim at +1600 is an equally valid number. Kim has won back-to-back events, beating Korda in both — which makes the argument that Korda is the dominant force in the field harder to sustain when the player who has beaten her twice in a row is available at the same price as a multiple-winner in top form.

Fades and a Triple-Digit Longshot

The injury concern around Minjee Lee (+2500) is real and actionable. Lee withdrew from last week’s event, which creates a significant preparation gap heading into a major. She did win a major in Texas last year, which explains some of her market support, but that event was played on a longer layout that suited her game differently. With the withdrawal flag active, fading Lee at this price is the disciplined call.

Patty Tavatanakit at +10000 is the number that deserves a small position. She is the 2021 Chevron champion — she has won this event before and knows how to navigate it. She finished T-5 last week, putting her in form heading into the major. Triple-digit odds on a former champion with a course-relevant win on her record and confirmed recent form is exactly the kind of price that sharp bettors target for small units with outsized upside. BetMGM analysts have specifically highlighted the price as attractive. You do not need Tavatanakit to win often — you need her to win once, and she has proven capable of doing exactly that at this venue. Texas bettors looking to maximize value should explore Texas sportsbooks for the best available lines.

The Plays

Hannah Green at +1600 is the primary position. She is the most in-form player in the field by a meaningful margin, the course profile does not eliminate her, and the price offers genuine value against a favorite compressed by public money. Tavatanakit at +10000 is a small-unit flier on course pedigree, recent form, and the structural inefficiency of markets at triple-digit numbers. Fade Yamashita and Jin Young Ko on distance profile. Fade Minjee Lee on injury. Do not let the world number ranking override the course fit — at Memorial Park, the distance metric is the filter that matters most.
