The bank took a hit yesterday. With a $2/w and $4/p bet, we are at $493 bet, $511.50 returned, for a +1.86% roi.
Today, we are headed to Fort Erie Race Track in Ft. Erie Ontario. The weather is a perfect, balmy day with the temperatures in the mid to high 60’s.
Let’s take a stab at the early Pick 3
Post time 1:20pm EDT
$3K Claiming fillies and mares, 3yo+, NW3l going 5f
Trainer Kevin Buttigieg was an absolute stone cold killer at Mahoning Valley until the shutdown going 34:12-10-5 for a 32% win rate and an overall 87% itm rate. His entry today, #3 D’Wonderful (9/5) will be tough to beat since she is the only one who has been running sprints only. Jockey Helen Vanek, who was one of the top riders last meet, then moved to Penn and struggled there, is on #2 Perfect Road (3/1). This daughter of Bellamy Road clocked two solid workouts of 3f in :36.2 and 4f in :48.8. I’m going with #5 Glorious Freedom (2/1) who has two races at the track and a recent 3f work at :35.8. The quick workout will be the impetus to get her out of the gate quick, establish a lead and control the pace. #5 Glorious Freedom (2/1) has our best class and speed numbers, gets blinkers today and is an MVR shipper with recent races in March. The cutback may do this mare good as she’s shown jump in routes and then faded off.
$8K claimers 3yo+ NWx going 5f
Buttigieg has #3 Silent Contempt (5/2) in this and it appears to be the winner. Looking for four wins in a row, Buttigieg is 25% with horses off 2-6 months, 42% moving class down and 42% with last time winners. Three solid works at the track with the last being 4f in :48.4
This will be my pick for our contest. Since neither of us drew blood yesterday, I’m going all in on #3 Silent Contempt (5/2) for $20/w
$8K Claimers 3yo+ NWx
With SmartCap numbers, #1 Anechoic (1/1) appears to be head and shoulders above the rest. And why not? This Mineshaft gelding is 24:12-3-1 lifetime, a 50% win clip and 67% itm rate. Trainer Elliott Sullivan is a sub-marginal 8% with horses off 2-6 months, but 27% off the claim. His two workouts have been so/so, but some horses aren’t necessarily as keen to work out as they are when the gate opens. #4 Goodoldhockeygame (2/1) is a six year old who has won $505K in 42 races for an average of $12K per race, twice that of the nearest entrant. If you take away the ten races that he ran on turf, which he never won one, that pushes the number greater.
P3 – all/3/1-4 $10 (if it pays more, it’ll be a shock).
