Yesterday was ugly and so was the weather.

$215 bet, $191.70 returned -10.84% roi.

Today is the final day of racing for this week at WRD and we are looking at the 5th race. This is a $27.5K allowance for 3yo+ NWx or NW3 going six furlongs. Post time is 4:15pm EDT and the weather is scattered rain and 74°.

#1 D’Rapper (8/1) has best-last and near best overall class and speed. Yesterday, in the eighth race, I watched as Floyd Wethey Jr, the jockey of this horse, win on his mount coming out of the one hole. He did it by keeping him off the dead rail and staying in the two path the entire trip. When his horse tried to veer into the rail, he quickly moved him back out. It was a brilliant ride. Look for that same effort today. #6 Town Champ (3/1) has best overall class, near best overall speed and second best-last numbers. This Speightstown gelding will be a tough out with his last Equibase speed numbers of 105, 106, 102 & 101. He also has a 5: 4-1-0 record in 2020 with $111K in earnings. The knock here is that he’s a recent claimer and this trainer, Greg Compton, is 0% off the claim. #7 Minister Of Soul (2/1) has hit the board with his last three and ran in the Highland Ice Stakes where he chased the fast front runner Oil Money and tired down the stretch. The positive jockey change to Ry Eikleberry, who is on fire of late, is a positive omen. However, and I have seen this a few times recently, after the last race, the horse was shipped back to Phoenix, did one workout and now has returned and the results have been unfavorable. #9 Lawton (4/1) just scored and gave an impressive late kick performance, clocking the final fractions in :12.39. Team Cabrera/Broberg won that $17K handicap on May 6th and one week later, they’re back and ready. Interestingly, the 93 Equibase number achieved in his last, is his lowest out of the last five races. He is capable on improvement. #3 Nomo Ron (8/1) might be a looming threat if there is a fast pace. In his last, he knocked down a :12.24 fraction after getting near the leader in :12.04 seconds. This Diodoro trained gelding has the afterburners to pull a price.

Here is how I played this:

Lawton to win and place

Town Champ/Lawton/Nomo Ron in an exacta box

Trifecta 3-9/3-9-1/6, 3-9/6/3-9-1, 6/3-9/3-9-1

I believe Minister Of Soul runs out of the money
