Spring is right around the corner as it’s going to be a beautiful weekend in Laurel, Maryland. Today’s 5th race will be a little cooler, 37° at post time and we’ll see what SmartCap has to offer.
The 5th should go off around 2:21 est and is a six-furlong race for four-year olds who have never won a race other than…
Using Equibase speed and class numbers, we get #7 Puttheglassdwon (7/2) with best last, #1 Charge To Victory (5/2) coming in a close second with best last numbers and #2 Eastern Bay (6/1) as well as #4 Colonial Sharp in the worth mentioning category.
For best overall speed, Colonel Sharp gets the highest numbers and for overall class, Colonel Sharp hits that number as well. Colonel Sharp gets best $ per race at Laurel with $14,673, dwarfing anyone else in the field. An interesting note abut Colonel Sharp – he’s been on the bench since August and his trainer is a pedestrian 20% bringing horses back. However, his last workout was one mile and that tells me his “race readiness and condition” are not in doubt. It wouldn’t surprise to see this guy get overlooked in the betting and that is why I’m on him.
We use Equibase for all information
