Belmont Park Saturday, October 26th

As I write this Friday night, someone dumped $9K on the #7 at Penn 7. I took the 4.

The Penn National 7th's lopsided win pool. Someone had a good hunch.

Race Update: The 7 shot out of the gate like a rocket, took charge and nobody got near. The 4 ran second and my place bet paid more than his win….

2:59 est The $100K English Channel Stakes

Belmont 5th

3yo’s going 1 mile on turf

#4 – Seismic Wave (5/1) running the Equibase numbers through our SmartCap program, this Tapit colt came out with a sweep – best last, best speed, and best class. In his last, the Grade 2 Hill Prince Stakes, he was bumped at the start, ran two wide and ended up coming six wide on the turn to finally get clear and got up for a respectable 3.75 length loss. Two back, he was second choice in the betting in the Saranac Stakes at Saratoga only to be bested by Global Access. This guy has earned $227K in eight races and is now taking a class drop and will not be the favorite due to the fan base of Chad Brown and his entrant moving up in class. This will be Jose Ortiz’s first time on him and he’ll be flying in the stretch.

Bets - $100/w $200/p #4

4:40 est The Grade 3, $200K Bold Ruler Stakes

Belmont 8th

3yo+ going 7 furlongs on dirt

I am not betting Maximum Security in this. He’s been vet scratched twice this year and the last was from cholic – a very serious, sometimes deadly affliction to horses. I truly believe that his A game is not enough versus older horses and I wonder if we’ll even see his A game…

#4 – True Timber (8/1). Looking for that edge, I am liking the fact this Tiznow gelding gets second Lasix. His last blast seems to have woken him up as he stayed near the lead before tiring in the stretch in The Kelso. Prior to that, his showing at Meydan in Dubai was far from stellar and since his last, he’s had two very good workouts. Kiaran McGlaughlin always dangerous in these situations - 29% from two turn routes to one turn sprints. This runner has a great shot at staying near and closing in deep stretch.

Bets $75/w $100/p #4

5:13 est The $100K Awad Stakes

Belmont 9th

2yo’s going 1 mile on turf

#5 Talking (8/1) got hung in traffic last out at Woodbine and never really settled well. This Union Rags offspring has the added benefit, for this race's purpose, of being gelded and in his last, the 1-2 finishers haven’t returned to the track, but third finisher, Vitalogy, came back to just miss in The Dixiana Bourbon Stakes on October 6th. This will be Javier Castellanos’ second time up and with his pressing style, he’ll show you some late kick.

Bets $50/w $100/p #5
