Penn National October 18th

Should be a brisk night, low 50’s at post time

Football Picks

Saturday –

I’m coming back to The Black Knights of Army -4. They should be able to run at will against a Georgia State team that cedes 200+ rushing ypg on D.

Penn State – 8.5. I went to this matchup in 2017 when Michigan had a better squad and Penn State was supposed to be lesser – Go Blue got a White Out 42-13. Looking for the same

Sunday –

Detroit +2. No, Kirk Cousins is not the second messiah of late. The Vikings have beaten Oakland, Atlanta and a depleted Philly. This is a scrappy Lions team and Stafford is having a fantastic year

New Orleans +3. Looks the sucker bet du jour, but getting points with a hot Teddy looks inviting.

6:55est Penn National Race 3

$5K Starter Allowance for 3yo+ going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#2 – Retrograde (5/2) happy to be back at Penn after an abysmal showing in a $12.5K claimer at Parx, 34% winner Edwin Gonzalez retains the reins and will lay close to the lead before striking in the stretch.

#8 – Old Faithful (7/2) has the best last figures pursuant to Equibase and is class dropping from last where he dueled at a dead rail and weakened. Won his last two at Penn and jockey Angel Quinones with trainer Tim Kreiser clipping along at 27%.

#6 Sal The Turtle (9/5) ml favorite and has won his last two by a combined 14.5 lengths. This move up in class today may be a stretch for him and is worth keeping in exotic wagers.

#1 Lost Iron (15/1) been on the bench since May and trainer Patricia Farro not known for being effective from a two to six month layoff – 4%. However, this Empire Maker gelding has had an upward improving diet of workouts and poses a threat to hit the board.

Bets –

$20/w $40/p #2,

$.50 Trifecta 2-8/2-8-1/6, 2-8/6/2-8-1, 1/2-8/2-8-1

7:25est Penn National Race 4

$25K Optional Claiming for 3yo+ going 5.5 furlongs on the dirt

#5 – Dupree (5/2) drops in to the $25K level where he has a win and two very close places. Trainer Jorge Navarro a tough out at Penn going 30% and with jockey Angel Suarez, they’re hitting 40% wins. Just put in a super sharp 4-furlong bullet work at :46.25

Bets –

$30/w $60/p #5

$4K Claimers for Fillies and Mares going 1 mile on dirt

#4 - Ticticboomdynamite (6/1) taking a class drop and switching to dirt after a couple of turf outings, this Tizway filly has put up consistently higher numbers than the other six runners in this field. Julio Hernandez (19%) gets this mount and it wouldn’t surprise to see him take her to the front and wire this group.

Bets –

$20/w $40/p #4

8:52est Penn National Race 7

$31.6K Allowance for Pa. Bred 3+yo Fillies and Mares going 6 furlongs on dirt

#2 – Brandywines Street (30/1) a little dumbfounded (and pleased) after running the numbers in our SmartCap program, getting a sweep of best last, best speed and best class, hitting on a 30/1 shot. Gets needed class relief today and it’ll be worth a shot at this price.

Bets –

$20/w $40p #2
