Thoroughbreds Monday: RT Picks the early races at Finger Lakes, before the track becomes a swimming pool
Finger Lakes
Farmingdale, NY. Rain 50̊
RACE 1
$5K Claimers 3yo+ NW3 4.5 Furlongs
2 – Frost Z (4/1) notwithstanding the last race, Frost Z has hit the board six of his last nine races at FL. Seemingly, the worse the conditions, the more this guy likes it. Scorching jockey Oscar Gomez (23% last 10) has an opportunity to pull away late with this gelding.
1 – Ay Carumba (10/1) based on his workouts, this gelding is responding well to his new barn. Trainer Luis Guiterrez has 33% winners thus far and jockey Dalton Brown, who exercises Ay Carumba, gets a live shot today. There is a lot of speed in front, so if patient, Brown can have him flying down the lane.
Finger Lakes Race 1 Bets
2 - $20/w $40/p
$1 Exacta 1-2/1-2-4-5
$2 Double 1-2/6
$.50 Pick 3 1-2/6/2
RACE 2
$5K F&M Claimers NWS 3yo+ 4.5 Furlongs
6 – Soaring Jan (2/1) first time out this year, trainer Michael LeCesse has a 17% win rate with returning horses. Toss in jockey Jaime Rodriguez and you get a 27% win rate. Jan’s first few workouts this spring were brisk but recently, it appears that the pace is slowed. Given this mares’ propensity for fading in the stretch, it makes sense. Today, she gets a cutback in distance and will get to the wire first.
RACE 3
2 – Bedside Blues (5/2) by the time this race goes off, the track will play to the speed . . . badly. Bedside Blues will take the lead and not look back. Jockey Jaime Rodriguez and trainer Charlton Baker are now a 47% win prop.
