Choosing one at Indiana Grand one at Keeneland and The Cross Country Pick 5

Indiana Grand Race 4
$37.5K Allowance Indy Breds 3yo+ df

The Skinny:

4 – Instant War (4-1) like all but one entrant today, this 5yo gelding has been on the bench since last fall. Five steady works since mid-March, including the last bullet for 4f in :47.4, look for this front runner to take advantage of the yet dried track. Gets hot jockey Rodney Prescott (last 10 days, 46%).

2 – Calandave (7/2) shipped from OP in February where he had his last race, Calandave loves Indy, getting highest earnings of this bunch - $99K. Has two recent works and he’ll be in the exotics.

5 – Gamera (20/1) another one from the bench since last fall and en fuego trainer Joseph Davis (last 30, 50%), brought him back in the same manner last year, he did not work Gamera out. Experience being the best teacher, Davis has had this brown gelding on a steady diet of workouts with an upward gradation in performance – 5 of the last 6 were bullets and his last was a brisk :59.6 for 5f

Indiana Grand Race 4 Bets
4 - $10/w $20/p
$2 Exacta Box 4-2-5
$1 Trifecta 5-2/5-2-3/4, 5-2/4/5-2-3, 4/5-2/5-2-3

Cross Country Pick 5
Leg A: Woodbine - $125K Grade 3 Whimsical (Race 7) F&M 4yo+ 6f
5- Shakopee Town
(2/1) Going with the most recent runner as most are coming off of long layoffs, Shakopee Town ships from FG where his las trace, March 19th, was a game effort that his jockey took him way wide the entire trip, including five wide into the stretch. He ended up getting up for 2nd and his jockey change today is positive. Woodbine, being a synthetic surface, necessitates a deeper drill down to see whom takes to it and Shakopee’s two recent works of 4f in :46.6 and 3f in :36.2 indicates appeal and condition. Jockey/trainer hits at 33%.

Leg B: Oaklawn Park - Rainbow (Race 7)
7 – Tapit Star
(8/5) after looking at the varied possibilities of the others potential to beat this guy, it wasn’t there.

Leg C: Keeneland - $250K Grade 2 Elkhorn (Race 9) 4yo+ going 10 panels
4 – Soglio
(4/1) ran second to both 10 -Zulu Alpha and 7 – Bigger Picture, both are going to be favorited in this, Soglio took the long way home in the G2 Pan America last out and still had gas in the tank to close within 2 lengths. Wiley jockey Florent Geroux (24%w last 10) in the irons.

In addition to this pick 5, I’m also betting this race because there are a couple of longshot opportunities to exploit

Keeneland Race 9 Bets
$2 Exacta Box 4-8-1
$1 Trifecta 8-7/8-7-10/4, 8-7/ 4/8-7-10, 4/8-7/8-7-10

Leg D: Charles Town - $1M Grade 2 Charles Town Classic (Race 11) 1.25M
Three choices
8 – Runnin’toluvya (12/1) 8 in-a-row wins and CT being a speed bias track, this local hero may take the lead and never look back.

4 – Rally Cry (9/2) comes out of the Woodward, G1 at Saratoga, which was a key race, where he chased Yoshida, Gunnivera, and Leofric last out. There is no better trainer at readying/bringing in layoff horses than Todd Pletcher. Johnny V in the irons as their legendary team, by virtue of their appearance, tells you their readiness with this guy

1 – Mongolian Groom (6/1) SA shipper and second off a layoff, Mongolian Groom got up for very respectable 3rd against Gift Box and McKinzie in the SA Big Cap two weeks ago at 54-1

Leg E: Aqueduct - $200K Times Square division (Race 9) NY Bred 3yo 6.5f

8 – Blindwillie Mctell (2/1) Linda Rice/Irad Ortiz, last out stakes winner and going for 3 in-a-row.
