Fever Look to Snap Skid Against Shorthanded Wings: Dallas vs Indiana Prediction

Indiana hosts Dallas as heavy favorites, but the Wings are missing three rotation players. Here's our full prediction and best bet for Fever-Wings.

The Fever have won this season series before, but they’ve also dropped two straight coming into tonight, and a shorthanded Dallas team just found a spark against Toronto — this one isn’t the laugher the spread suggests.

Quick take:

  • Pick: Indiana Fever -5.5
  • Why: Dallas is missing three rotation pieces and can’t match Indiana’s frontcourt size for 40 minutes
  • The number to watch: Aliyah Boston is averaging 17.0 points and 8.4 rebounds a game and gets a Wings frontline down two bodies

Indiana sits second in the East at 21-12, while Dallas is fourth in the West at 20-14, and both clubs are jockeying for playoff seeding with a little more than two weeks left in the regular season. The Fever have lost their last two, an 86-84 overtime heartbreaker to Las Vegas and a follow-up setback to Chicago, so this is as much a get-right game for Indiana as it is a measuring-stick spot for a Dallas roster that’s been operating without several key contributors.

Why the Number Looks a Little High

Books have Indiana favored anywhere from 5.5 to 7.5 depending on the shop, with the moneyline hovering around -290 for the Fever and +225 or better for the Wings, and the total sitting near 187.5. That’s a big number for a Dallas team that just beat Toronto 94-88 on Wednesday and is 4-6 over its last ten. The market is leaning heavily on Indiana’s home-court advantage at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the absences piling up on Dallas’s injury report, but the Wings have shown they can still put points on the board even shorthanded.

Depleted Wings Frontcourt Meets Indiana’s Size

Dallas is dealing with a genuinely rough injury report tonight: Azzi Fudd (knee), Jessica Shepard (ankle) and Aziaha James (leg) are all out, stripping the Wings of a rookie guard, a frontcourt scorer averaging 14.2 points, and a rotation piece in one shot. That leaves Paige Bueckers, who’s averaging 19.9 points a game, and Arike Ogunbowale, chipping in 14.9, to carry the offensive load with a thinner bench behind them. Bueckers has been Dallas’s steadiest option all year, but asking her to do it without Shepard clearing space inside is a tall order against a Fever frontline built to punish exactly that gap.

Indiana counters with Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston both trending in the right direction. Clark is probable with the back issue that’s nagged her for weeks, but she hasn’t missed a game since a rest day back on July 9 and has logged at least 33 minutes in three straight outings — she’s playing, and playing heavy minutes, no matter what the daily report says. She’s putting up 21.5 points, 8.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds a night, the engine of everything Indiana runs. Boston, also probable, is having arguably her best statistical season at 17.0 points and 8.4 boards, and with Dallas down a frontcourt piece in Shepard, she should see a lighter path to the rim than usual.

Dallas is without three rotation players tonight, while Indiana’s two stars have played through minor ailments without missing a beat.

That gap matters most in the fourth quarter. Indiana’s depth, with Kelsey Mitchell (averaging north of 20 a night herself) and Sophie Cunningham providing scoring punch off the perimeter, gives the Fever multiple answers when Dallas’s shorthanded rotation starts to wear down. Dallas has been competitive in bursts — that win over Toronto proves the offense can still function — but sustaining it against a healthier, deeper team for a full 40 minutes on the road is a different challenge entirely.

The pace of this one could also tilt toward Indiana’s favor. Dallas has leaned on quick, guard-heavy possessions to generate offense with Shepard sidelined, and that style tends to produce more empty trips against a defense with Boston patrolling the paint. Indiana ranks among the better rebounding teams in the league on the strength of its frontcourt size, and second-chance opportunities have quietly fueled several of the Fever’s recent wins even when the shooting numbers weren’t pretty. Dallas simply doesn’t have the bodies tonight to match that on the glass.

There’s also the matter of recent head-to-head history. Indiana beat Chicago in overtime back in June behind a huge combined effort from Clark, Boston and Mitchell, a reminder of how dangerous this trio is when everyone’s rolling together. Dallas hasn’t faced that same collective firepower yet this season, and doing it for the first time on the road, without three regular contributors, is about as tough a spot as the schedule could hand the Wings down the stretch.

Prediction and Best Bet

Indiana’s size advantage inside, its home floor, and Dallas’s growing absentee list all point the same direction. The Fever’s two losses came against Las Vegas and a Chicago team that’s been playing better basketball lately, not against a group this thin — expect Indiana to right the ship here. Anyone weighing the market against a road favorite should also check the latest FanDuel promo code before placing anything, since new-user offers can soften the risk on a lean like this one.

The pick:

  1. Prediction: Indiana Fever 92, Dallas Wings 81
  2. Best Bet: Indiana Fever -5.5

Boston and Clark both playing through minor injuries without missing time is the biggest tell here — Indiana’s stars are healthy enough to close, and Dallas’s depth just isn’t.
