Tennis: Late Wednesday Quarters Matches from Sydney, Auckland

Our tennis guru is 9-2 in his last eleven picks

Sydney ATP - Women
Quarterfinals

Pick: Ashley Barty, 15, Australia over Elise Mertens, 12, Belgium
Barty looked locked and loaded in her straight set win over Halep. In fact, the out-Haleped Halep! She looks like she’s playing her best tennis and will overcome Mertens’ big serves.

Pick: Kiki Bertens, 9, The Netherlands over Yulia Putintseva, 44, Russia
Bertens, at 6’ tall, should be able to outserve Putintseva. Even though the Russian is coming off a nice win over Sloane Stephens, Bertens is a tested veteran and is a top 10 player. She’ll move on.

Auckland ATP - Men
Quarterfinals

Pablo Carrena-Busta, 24, Spain over Jan-Lennard Struf, 58, Germany
Carrena-Busta hasn’t played a match yet after getting a bye and a walkover. He’ll either be rusty or rested. I’m betting rested. Struf will put up a monster fight, but Carrena-Busta is simply a better player. He’ll move on.
