UEFA Europa League season ends with Manchester United and Villarreal battling in Gdansk
It has been a long season for teams around Europe, especially Manchester United.
The Red Devils came back after the COVID-19 break and had no margin of error to finish in the top four (which they did), then went to the Europa League semifinals.
But United’s long path will end today in Gdansk, Poland, with a chance to win the first trophy in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.
Make no mistake about it: a trophy for Manchester United today would be huge for the club, which is moving in the right direction after years rudderless at sea. But this could be a tough match, against Unai Emery and Villarreal. If Harry Maguire is not fit to play, it makes the job that much more difficult.
I am hoping that the offensive attack can carry the day, and send the Red Devils into the offseason with one trophy in the bag, and another (UEFA Super Cup) to contest in August.
