All season, the race at the top of Portugal’s Primeira Liga has been tight, with Porto and Benfica battling back and forth.
But Porto’s slip-up Wednesday has opened the door for Benfica to move back to the top of the table. I would expect Benfica to kick down that door today.
The COVID-19 break came at a pivotal time in the league: in 24 games so far this season, Benfica has 19 wins, two draws, and three losses. All but one of the draws and losses happened in the five matches prior to the pause, including a 3-2 defeat at Porto on February 8.
But that is all gone now. A win Thursday over Tondela would see Benfica take a two-point lead at the top, and some impetus to win another title.
Parx has a Daily X Bet on the Primeira action today, taking two Lisbon teams (whose stadiums are separated by about a seven-minute drive) to both win and score two goals.
Benfica is -675 to win, so you would expect that to happen, but Sporting Lisbon is a tougher call on the road at Guimaraes. At +475 for the parlay, you have to hope Sporting can score a couple goals.
Outside of the Daily X Bet, I would take Benfica to romp.
