ISLANDERS at RANGERS, 7 p.m. (NBCSN)
When the two New York teams met to open their seasons at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 14 and 16, they swapped high-scoring shutouts, with the Islanders taking Game 1 by 4-0 and the Blue Shirts rebounding with a 5-0 white-washing in Game 2.
They finally meet for a third time Monday − once against in mid-town Manhattan − but guess what will be different this time? That’s right: Both teams are going to score.
Now, the odds that both teams will score are not very appetizing (in the -1200 range), so we will focus on the good starts the teams also shared in those first two matchups.
NYI tallied twice in the first 3:52 of their season, added another first-period goal and never looked back in Game 1. It took NYR just 2:12 to open the scoring in Game 2, and that lead was doubled before 20 minutes were up.
So let’s count on both teams getting that pesky shutout off their backs early and maybe turning the first period into a Gotham Pinball machine.
