Before the football begins Sunday afternoon, Philadelphia hockey fans can amuse themselves with some familiar faces on the early afternoon NHL broadcast.

Old nemesis Patrick Kane (was 2010 really over 10 years?) ago and Bobby Ryan – from just across George Washington’s favorite river − square off when the Red Wings visit the Blackhawks.

Kane, who rumor has it notched the Stanley Cup-winning goal in overtime at what was then the Wachovia Center, has three goals in his last four games and his 29 career goals against the Motor City Six is the most he has against any team.

Cherry Hill, N.J., native Ryan has four goals in his last three games for his new team, including a pair against Columbus earlier this week in a contest in which he also managed to ring up 17 minutes in penalties. If that isn’t someone right up a Flyers’ fan alley, I don’t know what is.

After allowing five goals in each of its first four games, Chicago held Detroit to just one Friday night, a meaningless third-period tally down 3-0. The Red Wings have already been shut out once this season (in their opener). Maybe there is another whitewash on the horizon for them.
