NHL: Thursday is a night for Devils and goals from Flyers-Bruins
Rangers (21-21-7) +125 @ Devils (19-23-7) -145 7 pm
Pick: Devils money line -145
Tonight the Blue Shirts make their way to The Rock to take on the Devils in one of the NHL’s greatest rivalry matchups. This is the first time this season these two teams are meeting and even though both clubs have been complete dumpster fires this season, it should still be interesting and hard fought.
The Devils enter tonight’s contest after a shocking road victory in Pittsburgh on Monday. Road wins have come few and far between for New Jersey this season (6-17-3 away from home), but it appears they have the Penguins number. Home games for the Devils are a different story, however, as they are sporting a 13-6-4 record while defending home ice, not too shabby. The Devils still are without F Taylor Hall whose mysterious lower body injury continues to worry the fan base. G Mackenzie Blackwood is still with the Binghamton Devils as he has not been called back up yet since his stint at the AHL All Star Game. We will look for G Keith Kinkaid to get the nod in net which proved to be successful on Monday. If the Devils go into this tilt with the same grit and smart play they displayed against the Penguins this should be an easy 2 points for them.
The Rangers are 4-6-0 in their last 10 and much like the Devils have been struggling to get anything going as of late. They dropped a goose egg to the Flyers on Tuesday as Philly scored about a minute and a half into the game which proved to be enough to stop a struggling New York Team, and snapping their three-game win streak. Even if they get good goaltending, the Devils second line of F Miles Wood – F Travis Zajac – F Blake Coleman have been on an absolute tear recently and should be able to help drag the Devils into the winning column tonight. It’ll probably be a close game but we like New Jersey.
Flyers +175 (21-23-6) @ Bruins (27-17-6) -210 7 pm
Pick: Over 6 -105
Tonight the Broad Street Bullies will venture to Bean Town in an attempt to halt the Bruins on home ice. The Flyers seem to have awoken from their slumber and are riding a five-game winning streak. The effects of a new front office and trust in their young goaltenders are starting to pay dividends for Philly. We think that since their last game against the Rangers was a little slow, they should come out tonight firing on all cylinders. Especially because last time they faced Boston they won 4-3 (hitting the over). In fact, the boys in orange hit the over in 3 of their last 5 games, and we think that number is only going to go up.
The Bruins have scored 3 or more goals in 5 of their last 8 games. Their offense can really make any defender look like a child and we expect them to break through multiple times tonight. We think since Boston lost the last matchup against the Flyers, they will come out looking for revenge. This game is going to feature some very high event hockey. We like the over.
