Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season delivers a loaded Sunday slate, and four games stand out for bettors looking for real signal in the opening week’s noise. Dallas and New York close the week with an NFC East primetime rivalry, Detroit tries to steamroll New Orleans in its home opener, Philadelphia hosts a Jayden Daniels-led Washington team looking to rebound from a lost season, and Green Bay travels to Minnesota for an NFC North divisional opener loaded with injury questions on both sides. With records at 0-0 across the board, sharp bettors are leaning on roster continuity, offensive line health, and situational spots rather than in-season form.

Cowboys at Giants: Sunday Night Line Movement Worth Watching

Dallas opened as a 3-point road favorite over New York for Sunday Night Football at MetLife Stadium, and the number has since drifted down to around Cowboys -2.5 to -3 with the total sitting at 48.5. The move is notable given the injury news on both sides: Dallas placed starting guard Tyler Smith on IR, and he’ll miss at least the first four games with a thumb injury, while backup tackle Tyler Guyton is expected to play through his own ailment. That leaves real questions about how well Dak Prescott will be protected against a Giants front that added talent up front this offseason.

New York, meanwhile, is bracing for the status of receiver Malik Nabers, who is dealing with a knee issue and was listed as questionable throughout the week after practicing Wednesday and Thursday. If Nabers plays, New York’s offense has a real vertical threat to pair with CeeDee Lamb on the other side. Dallas still carries the higher-scoring offense on paper with Lamb, George Pickens and Jake Ferguson, and most closing models have Dallas around a 60% favorite with a projected final in the 25-22 range.

The total here is the more interesting number. Both teams’ defenses have question marks up front, and with a compromised Dallas offensive line potentially leading to quicker, shorter-developing plays, the over has a case, especially in a game expected to stay close into the fourth quarter.

Saints at Lions: Detroit’s Home Opener as Heavy Favorites

Detroit opened as a 7-point favorite over New Orleans for its Ford Field home opener, with the number settling in the -6.5 to -7 range and the total around 49.5. The Lions are dealing with their own defensive absences, missing both starting safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph for at least the first four games, while New Orleans will be short-handed on the defensive line and at receiver, with rookie Jordyn Tyson also out for the first month.

The name to watch is Alvin Kamara, who has been limited in practice throughout the week with a sprained MCL and is genuinely uncertain for Sunday. If Kamara sits, Travis Etienne inherits a significant workload in his Saints debut, which changes the shape of New Orleans’ offensive game plan against a Lions front that still has real talent even with the secondary shorthanded. New Orleans will also be without edge rusher Cam Jordan, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury, further thinning a pass rush that needed Jordan’s veteran presence against Jared Goff and a Lions offensive line that returns most of its starters.

Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta give Detroit one of the most complete offensive units in the league, and with New Orleans banged up on the edges, the Lions look built to cover a number in the touchdown range at home. Multiple model-based projections have Detroit winning comfortably, with one landing on a 27-24 final that still clears the number given the current line.

Commanders at Eagles: A Measuring-Stick Spot for Jayden Daniels

Philadelphia opened as a 5.5-point favorite over Washington, with the number holding firm most of the week and the total sitting at 44.5. This is a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship path, but the situations have flipped: Washington collapsed down the stretch a year ago while Jayden Daniels battled injuries, and Philadelphia enters as one of the more complete rosters in the conference behind a defense that’s arguably the best in the NFC.

Washington’s offensive line is the concern here. Left tackle protection is a genuine question mark heading into the opener, and pass-rushers K’Lavon Chaisson and Odafe Oweh both worked through the week with no final injury designation for Philadelphia, meaning Washington’s front will see a full complement of Eagles rushers. Washington did get good news on Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who carries no designation and gives Daniels a viable early-down back to lean on if he needs extra protection help.

Philadelphia is reportedly the healthiest team on the injury report heading into Week 1, with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and the retooled receiving corps all good to go. Betting markets have consistently favored the points with Washington rather than the moneyline dog, but with Philadelphia at full strength on defense and Washington’s protection questions unresolved, the home team’s defense should be able to make enough plays to control this one.

Packers at Vikings: NFC North Opener Muddied by Injuries

This NFC North divisional opener at U.S. Bank Stadium has moved from an early Green Bay favorite to Minnesota now sitting as a 1.5 to 2.5-point home favorite, with the total settling around 45.5 to 46.5. The line movement tracks directly with Green Bay’s injury news: the Packers will be without star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, who opens the season on injured reserve continuing his recovery from a torn ACL, and running back Josh Jacobs is also unavailable, sitting on the commissioner’s exempt list. That’s a significant amount of talent missing from a team that entered the offseason with real Super Bowl aspirations.

Green Bay’s offensive line is banged up as well, with both Aaron Banks and Zach Bako-Bewele listed as questionable after taking limited reps all camp and sitting out the preseason. Jordan Love will lean heavily on Jayden Reed, Christian Watson and Matthew Golden to move the ball without Jacobs in the backfield. Minnesota, by contrast, enters the opener with no player on the 53-man roster carrying an injury designation, giving the Vikings a clean bill of health advantage that’s rare in Week 1.

Justin Jefferson anchors a Minnesota passing attack that should be able to attack a Green Bay secondary that’s had to adjust its pass-rush plan without Parsons off the edge. Betting trends favor the under here, too — Minnesota’s defense hit the under in eight of its last 10 games in 2025, and the under cashed in both meetings between these teams a year ago. With Green Bay shorthanded on both lines and Minnesota fully healthy, the home team looks live to cover a short number.

This Week’s Best Bets

Across these four featured matchups, the injury reports tell as much of a story as the spreads. Here’s how the numbers shake out heading into Sunday.

  • Cowboys at Giants: Lean over 48.5 given the offensive line questions on both sides
  • Saints at Lions: Detroit -6.5 to -7 at home with New Orleans thin on the edges
  • Commanders at Eagles: Eagles -5.5 behind a healthy, dominant defense
  • Packers at Vikings: Vikings -1.5 to -2.5 as the healthier team in a divisional spot

Line movement across the board has favored the healthier roster this week, and with Week 1 offering little in the way of in-season form to lean on, injury reports are the sharpest signal on the board. Bettors shopping for the best numbers on these games should compare prices with a DraftKings promo code before locking in Sunday’s action.
