Patriots -2.5 vs. Rams
The Rams weren’t lucky to beat New Orleans two weeks ago because of an unmade pass interference call. Questionable officiating, like questionable play-calling, is part of every NFL game. They were in position to win because they held the Saints to 10 points for the final three quarters. To their credit, they also didn’t panic after digging a hole early, but continued to execute their game plan. Conversely, the Patriots shut down the Chiefs early, which put them in position to be able to stage a comeback late. (Both Super Bowl teams are capable of making mid-game adjustments because neither is coached by Buddy Ryan). I was ready to concede the Pats’ time may be over, but they’ve made believers out of me. I expect Todd Gurley to return and have a good game and Tom Brady’s sackless string to end, but when the dust settles I am going with the big-game experience, on the field and on the sidelines. Regardless of who you take, if you’re looking for a hedge and, like me, you envision a close game, take the Patriots to win by 1-6 points (+370 on SugarHouse) or the Rams by 1-6 (+350). Slight lean to the over as well.
