If you so desire -- and we do -- you can bet on Over/Under 2.5 for the number of players to have a pass attempt in Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Obviously, barring an early game disaster, the two quarterbacks -- Tom Brady and Jared Goff -- will each have a pass attempt. Now, all you need for an Over is one of the back-up QBs to come in (because of injury or a run-away or needing a rally) -- or to have a non-QB -- throw a pass. Halfback Option, anyone?
With the Philly Special still fresh in our minds and the fact that we know Bill Belichick has been known to toss out a gadget play here and there, we set out to put some numbers behind what we were almost sure would be an Over bet.
>>> There have been three or more players to attempt a pass in 20 of the 52 Super Bowls. That includes the ones played in 2018, 2017 and 2014. That is three of the last five SBs.
>>> Nine of this year’s 18 Rams games and seven of the Patriots’ 18 games saw three or more players attempt a pass, a little under half the time.
Since it is an even-money bet (we saw it at +100) and it appears to come to fruition about half the time, it seems like a nice little wager to make for something that could happen on any play.
Pick: Total Players to Attempt a Pass - Over 2.5 ($5/+100)
