Alberta Confirms July 13 Launch for Regulated iGaming Market With FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars and 28 Operators Ready
Alberta has officially confirmed July 13 as the launch date for its regulated online sports betting and casino market, making it the second Canadian province after Ontario to open the sector to commercial operators.

Alberta has set July 13, 2026 as the official launch date for its regulated online gambling market, Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally confirmed in a letter to stakeholders Monday. The province will become the second in Canada after Ontario to license private-sector sportsbook and online casino operators, bringing major brands including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook into the market on opening day.
The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission has confirmed 28 operators for the regulated market to date, with additional operators expected to join after launch. The confirmed list includes FanDuel Canada, DraftKings, BetMGM Canada, BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, PointsBet Canada, theScore Bet, Betway, and several Canadian-owned platforms including BET99, Sports Interaction, and Play Alberta. Several operators have already opened pre-registration for Alberta residents, though no deposits or bets are permitted until July 13.
A Major Expansion of Canada’s Regulated Gambling Landscape
Ontario launched its competitive iGaming market in April 2022 and has become one of the most significant regulated online gambling markets in North America, generating hundreds of millions in revenue and tax income. Alberta’s entry creates a second major Canadian market and opens the door for operators to build a national presence across both provinces.
The Alberta government estimates the regulated market could generate approximately CAD $100 million in annual tax revenue while redirecting gambling activity away from gray-market and unregulated operators that currently serve Alberta residents. Unregulated operators have until July 13 to cease activity or risk being found unsuitable for iGaming registration in the province, though limited extensions of up to three months may be granted to operators demonstrating a clear path to compliance.
Super Group brands — including Betway, JackpotCity, Spin Casino, Royal Vegas, and Ruby Fortune — are also among the confirmed entrants. DraftKings is preparing to offer both its sportsbook and Golden Nugget Online Gaming casino product in the province. Caesars plans to launch Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online, and Horseshoe Online Casino as three separate brands.
World Cup Timing Adds to the Launch Buzz
The July 13 launch date falls during a high-stakes sports calendar. The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, just six days after Alberta’s market goes live. That timing is expected to drive rapid early adoption as newly licensed operators compete for Alberta sports bettors during one of the most-watched sporting events on the planet.
Google’s revised gambling advertising policy, which now permits licensed operators to run advertisements in Alberta, will further accelerate competition for new players as brands try to establish market position before the competitive landscape fully sets in. For Canadian sports bettors who have long relied on offshore or gray-market platforms, the move to a licensed, provincially regulated environment offers consumer protections and responsible gambling tools that unregulated sites cannot match.
The sports betting and online casino market in Alberta is widely expected to attract substantial handle volumes given the province’s population of roughly 4.6 million and its passionate sports fan base, particularly around the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers in the NHL.
