It's official: Davante Adams will be reunited with his old quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. The Jets acquired Adams from the Raiders early on Tuesday morning in exchange for a conditional 3rd round pick. Learn more about this blockbuster trade in the details below.

Does This Move Make the Jets a Major Player in the AFC?

Adams definitely upgrades a Jets offense that ranks just 26th in yards per pass this season. Aaron Rodgers needed another proven deep threat to complement Garrett Wilson. Adams, his former teammate with the Packers, fits that bill and then some.

Both Rodgers and all Jets fans were starving for some good news after their disappointing 23-20 loss on Monday Night Football to the Bills. The loss came just a few days after the team parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh. A future Hall of Fame wideout joining the roster absolutely qualifies as good news.

With Adams in the lineup, opposing defenses will have to think twice before double-teaming Wilson. Adams has endured an injury-riddled season so far in 2024, as he only hauled in 18 receptions and 1 touchdown for the Raiders. However, Adams said he'll be "ready to roll" for the Jets' showdown with the Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.

While the addition of Adams will lift the spirits of the squad, the Jets are still a -175 favorite at DraftKings to NOT make the playoffs. Those odds could change with a win in Pittsburgh, but this is still a team that's 2-4 and has a long way to go.

What About the Jets Running Game?

While adding Adams soups up the Jets passing attack, the running game (or lack thereof) also needs to be addressed. New York ranks just 28th out of 32 NFL teams in yards per rush gained.

That's a pretty pitiful number, especially since Breece Hall and Braelon Allen form a pretty solid 1-2 punch at the running back position. The offensive line has got to do a better job of creating some decent running lanes for those two backs.

Jets fans can only hope that Adams and Wilson can stretch opposing defenses enough to cause teams to play more two-high safety sets. That would give both Hall and Allen more time to find a hole before contact.

What Does This Trade Mean for the Raiders?

Most NFL experts expected Las Vegas to be sellers this season, but they sure didn't expect the franchise to start parting ways with its superstars this early. The Raiders are 2-4 but dealing Adams essentially means that they are giving up on the 2024 campaign and trying to load up on draft picks.

Is star defensive end Max Crosby next up on the trading block? Time will tell. The Detroit Lions may be the perfect fit for an elite pass rusher like Crosby, especially since Aidan Hutchison just went down with a gruesome leg injury. Stay tuned!
