U.S. Senate to take up ‘Sports Wagering Market Integrity’ Bill
New York Democrat and Utah Republican team up for attempt at bi-partisan legislation
We knew there had to be something that would bring Democrats and Republicans together: Sports betting.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) are introducing a bill called the Sports Wagering Market Integrity Act of 2018.
According to the Associated Press, the key part of the bill, which will anger the professional sports leagues, is that it will deny them the “integrity fees” they seek and allow the Justice Department to set minimum sports betting standards for states.
So we have a bi-partisan bill seeking “Integrity” with the Justice Department setting “standards.” Has the world gone mad?
