College GameDay will be at Cal-Berkely for the 1st time in its history this weekend. The Bears are coming off a bye after taking their 1st loss of the season 14-9 against FSU. They did beat Auburn on the road 21-14 just two weeks previous in what was one of the largest wins in recent program history.
The Bear’s defense has been strong all season. They are 17th in the country in allowing their opponents just 12.75ppg. Nyziah Hunter has been the top offensive player for them this year. He has grabbed 14 balls for 182 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Bears.
The Miami Hurricanes won arguably the most entertaining game of the season to date last week. On Friday night they came back from a 34-24 deficit in the 4th quarter against Virginia Tech.
After Cam Ward led the Canes to back-to-back scoring drives to take a 38-34 lead, VT had one shot, and a Hail Mary pass seemingly landed in the hands of a receiver for a game-winning title. Unfortunately for VT and their fans, after review, they overturned the TD and Miami walked away to remain undefeated.
Miami got a bit of a wakeup call last week at home but now goes across the country to face a Cal team that believes a win here would vault their program to a whole new level.
In the end here, we just do not see Cal being able to keep up with the Miami offense. Miami is 2nd in the country in scoring while sitting at 28th in the country in points allowed per game.
While Cal’s defense has looked good and ranks 17th in points allowed per game, they have only averaged 23ppg which is 173rd in the country.
Miami is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road.
Cal is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games played in week 6.
Cal is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games played in October.
The hope of being undefeated as they head into the tough part of their schedule where they will face multiple ranked teams was dashed last week. Ole Miss was a home favored when the Kentucky Wildcats came to town and at the half, they found themselves down 10-7.
Jaxson Dart was only able to complete 67% of his passes but was sacked 4 times and was only able to get to 260 yards passing. The offense was only able to convert on one of their 10 3rd down opportunities and that proved pivotal. After taking a 17-13 lead heading into the 4th, before a Gsvin Wimsatt fumble was recovered into the endzone by Josh Kattus for what would be the game-winning score.
South Carolina is coming off a bye week. They stomped Akron 50-7 the week prior after falling then #12 LSU 35-33 the week before. At 3-1, the Gamecocks now head into the toughest stretch of their schedule.
They have #12 Ole Miss here and follow that with back-to-back road trips to #1 Alabama and #19 Oklahoma. They are going to need to take at least one of these 3 and this matchup is likely their best chance. They will likely try to establish their run game as they are averaging just under 195 per game on the ground.
We would love to see South Carolina pull off this upset or at least keep it close, but this is not an easy spot for them.
However, Ole Miss is going to head to LSU next week and could be caught looking ahead of this one as they are still licking their wounds from the Kentucky loss.
We think ultimately Ole Miss will get the win here, but the cover is going to be a problem.
South Carolina is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against an opponent in the West Division.
South Carolina is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against an opponent in the Southeastern Conference.
South Carolina is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games.
South Carolina is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games played in week 6.
