Clemson Tigers at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 2 pm Eastern

The Pick: Clemson -2.5 (-110), bet $22 to win $20

Clemson enters this afternoon’s game 12-9 overall but 8-4 against the spread in their last 12. Georgia Tech is only 7-7 at home, which includes a weak non-conference schedule, only scores 69.8 points per game (good for a 200th ranked adjusted offense), and gives up 2.6 more points per game than the Tigers. Clemson has played teams tough recently; they just beat Florida State and lost to Duke by only two points. Neither of these teams is gonna be around once March is here, but Clemson is better and knows it.

Miami Hurricanes at Virginia Cavaliers, 5 pm Eastern

The Pick: Miami +4 (-108), bet $26.88 to win $25; Miami +155, bet $10 to win $15.50

An upset pick that isn’t an upset pick to me. Miami is ranked 64th in the Pomeroy rankings while Virginia is 92nd. The Hurricanes are 8-3 in ACC play while Virginia is 7-5. Miami is 12-3 in its last 15 games and 7-3 in its last ten, including 3-1 on the road. They outscore the Cavaliers by 12.4 points per game (75.3 vs. 62.9). As I’ve said, Virginia isn’t so much good defensively as they are slow as molasses, with the slowest adjusted pace in the nation. I’d be embarrassed by that, but whatever. Right now, Joe Lunardi’s “Bracketology” has Miami as a 9-seed and Virginia out. Miami wants better than a 9-seed, so they’re gonna come out hard today…and Virginia’s nowhere to be found on this prospective bracket, so why are they favored by four? For those of you who’ve read me this entire season who are inferring it: yes, Virginia, I think you stink.
