NCAAB Wednesday: Can Rutgers Get Over the Hump for NIT Bid?

Hosting Penn State
Published on

Penn State (- 1.5) at Rutgers, 7 p.m.
Pick:
Rutgers (+1.5)

Both of these Big 10 afterthoughts have played well of late. Penn State (12-17) has recent wins over ranked teams Michigan and Maryland before a tough 61-57 loss to Wisconsin.

Rutgers (14-14) is coming off an 86-72 blowout of Iowa at Iowa, the program’s most impressive win of the season and maybe in many seasons.

The Scarlet Knights would love to get a NIT bid this year and with a good fan base the NIT would probably love to have them in its field. But the Knights need a win Wednesday night for that to happen.

Rutgers is 10-6 at the RAC this year, while Penn State is just 3-9 on the road, so chalk that up in the Knights’ favor as well. Rutgers has also covered the spread in its last six games and in eight of its last 10. So that’s encouraging.

And here's one last stat that really means nothing, but it helps my pick so I’m going to use it: Penn State is 1-5-1 against the spread in its last seven games played on Wednesday. Rutgers is 6-0 against the spread in its last six Wednesday games.

What day is it? What day is it?

It’s time for Rutgers to get over the hump.
