O'Sullivan's Tuesday NBA Picks: Pistons vs Wizards, Hawks vs Celtics

Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards, 7 pm Eastern, Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics, 7:30 pm.
Wizards vs Pistons tonight in the District. It's not Suns vs Bucks but the money spends the same.

Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Washington -144, bet $36 to win $25

Detroit comes to Washington off an overtime victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday and kicks off a two-game road trip against a Wizards team that is hanging onto a chance to make the play-in games for this year’s playoffs. The Pistons need to recall what their true mission is: tanking for the playoffs. I’ll pay a little extra for a straight Washington win, given that Detroit is 4-16 in their last 20 games and 6-25 on the road overall. The Wizards are under .500 at home, but only by one game, 15-16. This is not a game anyone has circled on their calendar, but the Wizards should prevail at home.

Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics, 7:30 pm Eastern

The Pick: Boston -7 (-110), bet $27.50 to win $25

Boston beat Atlanta at home a couple of weeks ago, 105-95, and I see no reason why it shouldn’t happen again tonight. The Celtics are rolling, 8-2 in their last ten games, while the Hawks seem to be treading water a bit, 5-5 in that same span. Overall, Atlanta is 10-19 against the spread on the road, and even though Trae Young just dropped 41 points on the Raptors, I think Celtics Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown (not to mention Marcus Smart) will be amped to take the Hawk star on. Boston is also coming off a bad loss to Indiana on Sunday; they’ll want to get back on track tonight.
