Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons, 12 noon Eastern

The Pick: Boston -11, bet $11 to win $10

Detroit has actually won two in a row, including a one-point victory over the Celtics in Boston. That’s a primary reason I think Boston’s gonna lay the smackdown this afternoon. The Celtics have been rolling, winning nine in a row before being tripped up by the Pistons right before the All-Star Break started a week ago. I mean, can a game in the dregs of the regular season be considered a “revenge game?” Maybe, but my reasoning is more along the lines of, Boston knows they’re on the rise and will want that momentum to continue. Also, Detroit is now full-on “battling” for the best position in the draft lottery. All that indicates a Saturday afternoon romp for the Celtics.

Toronto Raptors at Atlanta Hawks, 7:30 pm Eastern

The Pick: Atlanta -2.5 (-112), bet $22 to win $20

The Hawks host the Raptors who are coming off a game last night in Charlotte, so the road back-to-back effect should be in, well, in effect. Toronto has won the last two matchups against Atlanta, and to me, that’s added incentive for the Hawks to show they’re not bitten by the Raptors. Trae Young, who’s fifth in the league in scoring, might be extra-primed to have a great game, with Raptor Fred VanVleet gimpy and day-to-day with a knee injury. The Hawks are 10th in the East right now and need a push to make sure they make the playoffs. They need to take advantage of the rest they have over Toronto.

Washington Wizards at Cleveland Cavaliers, 8 pm Eastern

The Pick: Cleveland -7.5 (-110), bet $22 to win $20; Cleveland -335, bet $20 to win $6

Here’s another game where I think the team suffering a three-game losing streak will have the advantage. Cleveland has dropped their last three, the last one to lowly Detroit, and will want to right the ship tonight. Also, Washington comes into tonight for the second game of a back-to-back, on the road, after a double-overtime game last night. I’m guessing fatigue might be a factor. The Cavaliers are 15-2 (!) as a home favorite this season, with an average margin of victory of 12.1 (!). They’re a solid team that’s been losing, and will want to end that as soon as possible.

San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat, 8 pm Eastern

The Pick: Miami -8.5 (-110), bet $22 to win $20; Miami -400, bet $20 to win $5

San Antonio was the other team that played in that double-overtime game against Washington, and now they go on the road for the second game of a back-to-back. So I’ll ride Miami, who’s 19-7 at home (14-12 against the spread), and first in the Eastern Conference. The Spurs are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games at Miami, and now they turn it around after playing 6/5s of a game last night.

The Pick: Parlay Boston w/Cleveland w/Miami -121, bet $17.94 to win $15

Sacramento Kings at Denver Nuggets, 9 pm Eastern

The Pick: Denver -7.5 (-110), bet $22 to win $20

As the season winds up, favorites who are trying to make the playoffs become more attractive than teams who are headed for the lottery, especially when those playoff contenders are at home - not to mention at home a mile up in the sky. Denver’s won both matchups with Sacramento this season by double-digits and has built a four-game winning streak overall. The Nuggets are battling for playoff position, while the Kings have sunk towards the bottom of the Western Conference. I think Denver and Nikola Jokic just keep grinding and grinding, and we’ll just continue to say things like, “Oh, yeah - Denver’s pretty good.” That means winning games like tonight.

The Pick: Boston w/Cleveland w/Miami w/Denver +139, bet $5 to win $6.94

Call it a “chalk special.”
