Knicks (+10.5) @ Nuggets (207)

Pick: Under 207

The Knicks enter Sunday’s game in Denver on a winning streak! It might only be two games, but that’s saying something when you’ve only won six with almost two months of the season in the books. New York won on Wednesday in San Francisco against the Warriors and followed it up with a victory on Friday in Sacramento. That makes the side in tonight’s game against the Nuggets kind of tricky. Are the Knicks actually playing better or did they just catch a few sub- .500 teams napping? Denver has been its usual self at home recently with victories against Portland and Oklahoma City. Only the two teams that reside in Staples Center have a better straight-up record at home in the West than Denver. However, the Nuggets are just 7-6 ATS in the Mile High City and with this number being so high, it’s not one we’re running to lay. However, with the Knicks wrapping up a west coast trip and Denver being one of the slower-paced teams in the NBA, the under makes a lot of sense in this one. There’s not much reason for the Nuggets to pour it on if the game does get out of hand, and if it’s competitive it’s probably in the 90s in the final minutes. There’s a reason the Nuggets are the best under team in the NBA. They’re not a very athletic team and therefore don’t look to push the tempo and score in transition. They beat you by wearing you down and executing in the half-court offense. The Knicks happen to be the second-best under team in the NBA and we’re buying this as well. A team like New York would be one that many teams could sleepwalk through but the Knicks just don’t have the offensive firepower to make those teams pay. With Denver laying 10.5 points, the side feels like the far more sweatier wager tonight than the total. Taking this total under 207 should be fairly safe.
