Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and William Contreras: 3 Batter Props to Back in Padres-Brewers NLDS Game 2

San Diego faces elimination pressure in Game 2, and three bats stand out in the player prop market: Tatis Jr., Machado, and Contreras.

The Padres head into Game 2 of the NLDS at American Family Field facing an immediate must-win scenario after dropping the opener 3-2 to Milwaukee on a William Contreras go-ahead homer in the seventh. San Diego hands the ball to Michael King, who tossed seven scoreless innings against the Cubs in the Wild Card round, while the Brewers counter with rookie right-hander Logan Henderson (11-3, 2.47 ERA). With both staffs trending toward a lower-scoring affair on paper, the prop market is where the real value sits — and three bats in particular line up well against today’s pitching matchups.

San Diego’s lineup has been baseball’s hottest offense since late September, and Milwaukee’s own middle-of-the-order production flipped a game late on Saturday. That combination of surging bats and elimination-adjacent stakes makes player props the sharper angle than the moneyline today.

Fernando Tatis Jr. 1+ Hit (52.8% Model Probability)

Tatis has been the engine of San Diego’s offense for months now, and the model’s 52.8% hit probability actually undersells how he’s trending. After a two-month homerless stretch earlier in the year, he caught fire on May 30 and never let up, finishing the regular season at .289/.358/.470. He’s been even better against right-handed pitching than the raw splits suggest in big moments — he went 24-for-65 (.369) over a recent stretch that carried him into the postseason, and he opened the Wild Card Series with a leadoff homer against the Cubs.

Facing Henderson, a righty Tatis has the platoon edge against as a right-handed hitter who still manages a .283 mark versus same-handed pitching this year, the volume of contact he’s making right now is the story. He’s a line-drive, multi-hit threat at the top of the order, and Milwaukee’s bullpen depth behind Henderson hasn’t been tested much in October yet. A hit from the Padres’ leadoff man is close to a coin flip with legitimate upside given his current form.

Manny Machado 1+ Hit and Home Run Angle (53.1% Hit, 11.2% HR)

Machado’s season-long .217 average doesn’t tell the full story of where he is right now. He hit six home runs and drove in 15 runs over his final 20 regular-season games, and he’s carried that into October — he’s 5-for-11 (.455) with a homer through the first three playoff games. The model’s 53.1% hit probability lines up with a hitter who’s clearly locked in regardless of what the full-season line says, and the 11.2% home run probability is worth attention too, given he’s one of only a handful of NL hitters to clear 30 homers this season.

Context matters here: Machado has had real swing-and-miss issues against right-handed pitching in the regular season, but Henderson is a rookie making his postseason debut after only 18 MLB starts, and Machado has historically punished pitchers he’s seeing for the first time in a series. With Milwaukee needing length from Henderson to protect its bullpen, Machado gets a long look at a righty who hasn’t had to navigate a lineup with this much postseason urgency before.

William Contreras Over 0.5 RBI (+170)

Contreras is the player who flipped Game 1, and the price here looks generous given where his season has trended. He hit .270 with 94 RBI overall, but dig into the splits and the matchup gets better: he’s at .270 with 73 RBI in 408 at-bats against right-handed pitching, and he’s hitting .282 with runners in scoring position. His recent form adds even more weight — over his last 30 games he’s batting .311 with 31 RBI, numbers that spiked specifically because he’s driving in runs at an elite clip down the stretch and into October.

Facing King, who allowed just one run in 5 2/3 innings the lone time he faced Milwaukee this season, Contreras doesn’t need a big individual day — just one well-struck ball with a runner on. Given Milwaukee’s lineup is stacked with table-setters in Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang in front of him, the RBI opportunities should be there most of the night. At +170, a single RBI from the hottest hitter in this series through two games is a square number against the actual role he’s playing in this lineup.

Today’s Edge

All three of these props hinge on recent form outweighing full-season averages — Tatis and Machado are both red-hot heading into October, and Contreras just proved in Game 1 exactly what he’s capable of against this Padres pitching staff. Bettors tracking line movement on these should check a DraftKings promo code before kickoff, since markets like these tend to move fast once lineups are confirmed.

  • Fernando Tatis Jr. OVER 0.5 Hits (52.8% model probability)
  • Manny Machado OVER 0.5 Hits (53.1% model probability, 11.2% HR probability)
  • William Contreras OVER 0.5 RBI (+170)

With elimination pressure building on San Diego and Milwaukee’s bats already proving they can answer, expect all three of these names to be heavily involved in how Game 2 plays out.
