When Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to pitch, everything else on the baseball calendar takes a back seat. Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium gives fans exactly that — Ohtani on the mound for a 10:10 PM ET first pitch against the Miami Marlins, with the Dodgers sitting at 20-9 and rolling through one of the strongest starts to any season in recent memory. The Marlins come in at 13-16, having shown genuine fight in Monday’s series opener despite falling 5-4, and they will need every ounce of their collective ability to slow down a Los Angeles team that has been the best in baseball since the season’s opening week. This is a game worth staying up for regardless of what time zone you live in.

The context around Ohtani’s Tuesday start is unlike anything else the sport produces. Reports confirm that Ohtani will pitch only and will not bat in Tuesday’s lineup — a decision that preserves his arm for multiple days of recovery while still deploying the most dominant starting pitcher on any roster in baseball right now. His ERA through the early part of the 2026 season stands at 0.38, which is an almost incomprehensible number at any level of professional baseball. Even accounting for the small sample size of a two-win start, the quality of his outings — the swing-and-miss rate, the stuff velocity, the command — has been extraordinary. Every hitter in baseball knows what is coming and still cannot hit it.

Dodgers Are Heavy Favorites, But Miami Has Already Shown They Can Fight

Los Angeles is installed as the -300 moneyline favorite for Tuesday’s game, with Miami available at a very attractive +245 for bettors who want to take a shot on the Marlins. The run line has the Dodgers at -1.5 (-138) and the Marlins at +1.5 (+115). The over/under is set at 8. The massive price on the Dodgers reflects both Ohtani on the mound and the overall quality gap between the two rosters, but it is worth noting that Monday’s game — the series opener — ended 5-4 Miami, meaning the Marlins had the Dodgers’ number just 24 hours earlier before the Dodgers walked it off on Kyle Tucker’s two-RBI single. The series is tied 1-1 entering Tuesday, and the Marlins have already demonstrated they are not going to simply lie down against the best team in the National League.

Ohtani’s Dominance, Dodgers’ Loaded Lineup, and Miami’s Surprising Fight

The Dodgers’ lineup for Tuesday represents one of the most balanced and dangerous collections of hitters in baseball. Kyle Tucker enters Tuesday’s game as the hero of Monday’s walkoff, and that kind of recent success tends to carry over into the following game with elevated confidence and early-count aggression. Freddie Freeman remains one of the most consistent hitters in the National League, operating with excellent plate discipline and the ability to do damage to both sides of the plate. Teoscar Hernandez and Andy Pages provide power from the right side, giving the Dodgers multiple options against any left or right-handed pitching combination Miami might deploy from the bullpen.

Will Smith’s return from a back issue gives the Dodgers their full catching core back on the field, and Smith’s ability to manage Ohtani’s starts from behind the plate is valuable beyond just the offensive contribution. Max Muncy adds another left-handed power threat with the ability to work walks and create traffic on the bases. When the Dodgers are operating at full strength — which Tuesday appears to be — they are legitimately the most complete team in baseball, and that quality does not disappear even when Ohtani is pitching rather than hitting.

Miami’s starter for Tuesday is Janson Junk, who carries a 1-2 record with a 3.67 ERA. That number is far more respectable than it might appear from a pitcher named Junk facing the Dodgers — particularly given Junk’s most recent outing of five scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals, which showed the kind of performance he is capable of when his stuff is working. The Marlins will need that version of Junk for at least six innings if they want to keep this game close, because asking their bullpen to handle the heart of the Dodgers lineup for multiple innings is a significant ask even on a good night.

The Marlins have shown they can put together offensive innings when least expected. Monday’s performance included a Liam Hicks three-run home run that changed the complexion of the game and had the Marlins ahead entering the final innings. Otto Lopez, Xavier Edwards, Jakob Marsee, and Connor Norby have been collectively more productive than their roster projections suggested, and that depth of competitive at-bats means Miami is not an automatic out even against a starter as dominant as Ohtani. Against a 0.38 ERA, the Marlins will need to be disciplined and hope for the statistical regression that comes for every pitcher eventually — but Ohtani has been so consistent that counting on that regression in any given game is an unreliable strategy.

One significant concern for Miami is the closer situation. Pete Fairbanks left Monday’s game with a thumb issue and is listed as questionable for Tuesday. Fairbanks is the Marlins’ most reliable late-inning option, and losing him for any extended period would significantly undermine Miami’s ability to protect leads or keep games close in the final innings. If Fairbanks cannot pitch, the Marlins’ bullpen depth becomes a real question against a Dodgers lineup that punishes relief pitching once it has identified patterns and tendencies.

Ohtani pitching only — without the added offensive dimension that makes him the most complete player the sport has ever seen — still means Los Angeles is sending the best starting pitcher in baseball to the mound with a lineup that hit the walkoff the night before. The combination of elite pitching and a fully healthy, motivated lineup gives the Dodgers everything they need to win this game convincingly.

Prediction and Best Bet

Shohei Ohtani at 0.38 ERA, pitching at Dodger Stadium in front of one of the best lineups in baseball, against a Marlins team that has shown fight but faces a historically dominant outing. The Dodgers win this game, and Ohtani’s performance through six or seven innings keeps Miami from generating the kind of run production they showed Monday night. Los Angeles takes the series lead with a comfortable victory.

  • Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers 6, Miami Marlins 2
  • Best Bet: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 run line (-138)

The Dodgers run line at -1.5 for -138 is a sharper play than the -300 moneyline for Tuesday’s game. Ohtani’s dominance — 0.38 ERA, elite stuff, command that has been unprecedented through his early 2026 starts — makes a convincing multi-run victory the most likely outcome. When the best pitcher in baseball takes the mound for the best team in baseball, laying -138 to win by two or more runs is a value play that aligns with the expected quality gap between these two clubs.
