Twins at Tigers Under 7 (-118)

MIN at DET - 6:10 PM EDT

Call me square if you must, but any time I can get two bona fide aces going against each other I'm jumping on the Under. That's definitely what we have here with Joe Ryan facing Tarik Skubal.

My numbers have Ryan as a Top 10 starter in the AL and Skubal is the odds-on favorite to win the AL Cy Young. The Tigers have an expected batting average of just .179 against Ryan. Detroit has been hitting the ball better but they really only have two guys (Riley Greene and Matt Vierling) who hit the ball hard consistently.

The Twins haven't fared much better against Skubal (xBA: .219). Minnesota only has two hitters with expected batting averages over .268. This could be a 2-1 game heading into the 7th inning, so give me the Under!

Cubs at Royals Under 8.5 (-115)

MIN at DET - 7:10 PM EDT

Here's another solid Under opportunity that caught my eye, even though I hate both teams' bullpens. Even with that concern, I think this number is about a full run too high. Both of these starters are more than capable of pitching a gem.

Shota Imanaga has had a fabulous rookie season for the Cubs, and I think he'll mow down this Royals lineup. Kansas City has been hitting better recently, but they're still just 23rd in WRC+ against southpaws. None of these Royals hitters have seen Imanaga, and that should work in our favor.

On the other side, I think Seth Lugo is arguably the most underrated starter in the American League. The veteran righty doesn't throw that hard, but he uses 9 (yes, NINE) different pitches to keep hitters on their toes. Look for Lugo to dominate a lineup that just doesn't look the same without Cody Bellinger.

Padres (+102)

SD at BAL - 4:05 PM EDT

It kills me to fade the Orioles, but something isn't quite right with Dean Kremer. The 28-year-old has an ERA of 5.87 over his last 5 starts and he ranks in just the 3rd percentile in barrel rate. Kremer's fastball velocity is down about 3 mph, which makes me wonder if he's fully healthy.

Michael King of the Pads is slowly establishing himself as the most reliable starter in San Diego's rotation. Though King's not yet a household name, he has arguably the best changeup in all of baseball. That's a big reason why his K, Whiff, and Chase rates are all off the charts.

Both teams have solid bullpens, but I'd give San Diego a slight nod in that department. The Orioles have the better offense, but not by much. The wrong team is favored in this one. Take the Pads at the plus price!
