We have a full slate of MLB games today, including 5 doubleheaders giving us a full 20 game day beginning at 2:10 ET. Below, you will find matchups, trends, and picks in the first of the doubleheader games.
Pitchers: Matthew Boyd (1-4, 7.27 ERA, 5.39 FIP) vs Randy Dobnak (5-2, 3.12 ERA, 4.06 FIP)
Trends: Last time Dobnak pitched was against Detroit when he allowed 6 runs. In that same game Boyd allowed 1ER over 6. Both teams well rested in first game of DH. No Kepler, Arraez, or Rosario for Twins.
Pick: Detroit ML (+150) or DET Score First and Win (+230)
Pitchers: Luis Castillo (0-5, 4.10 ERA, 3.03 FIP) vs Steven Brault (0-1, 4.00 ERA, 3.91 FIP)
Trends: Both teams at bottom of Central. Reds 3rd in NL with 56 homers. Brault has yet to allow one. Castillo’s advanced numbers are solid. In short game he could go CG and skip the pen.
Pick: Under 6 runs (-105)
Pitchers: Tanner Roark (2-1, 5.33 ERA, 6.65 FIP) vs Zack Godley (0-3, 7.71 ERA, 6.68 FIP)
Trends: Polar opposite teams right now. Surging Blue Jays made a splash at the deadline while Boston has one of worst records in baseball. Both teams in middle of pack offensively but are facing two struggling pitchers. Ball has been flying in Boston lately.
Pick: Total Runs – Inning 1 Over 1.5 (+170)
Pitchers: Austin Voth (0-4, 7.99 ERA, 6.98 FIP) vs Tommy Milone (1-4, 5.68 ERA, 4.49 FIP)
Trends: Washington coming off tough series have to face explosive offense with a bad pitcher. Not a good recipe for success. Both teams should be able to score some runs today, so even in a shorter games should be plenty of AB’s to go around.
Pick: Ronald Acuna over .5 hits (-195) and Trea Turner over .5 hits (-265)
