The Skinny:
This week has been weird. People are acting like they just realized the Orioles are bad. Really bad. And I’ll hammer the Yankees in Baltimore until the cows come home. It helps that the Yankees are 4-0 in CC Sabathia’s last four starts vs. a team with a losing record. . . . After a heartbreaking loss in the bottom of the ninth frame, it’ll be hard for the Phillies to bounce back. Facing their former ace in Cole Hamels only further complicates things. The Cubs are 7-1 in Hamels' last eight starts. And with fellow Cole, Cole Irvin, on the mound as well, all the more reason to take the Cubs. . . . There are not a ton of trends that are telling for this one, but there are two that make my eyebrows raise slowly. The Blue Jays are 4-0 in Aaron Sanchez’s last four starts following an outing of less than four innings in his last appearance and the Red Sox are 1-4 in Rick Porcello’s last five starts on astroturf. Worth a flyer for me. . . . This is quite the stat, but the Twins are 15-1 in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a losing record. That’s proficiency. That, plus the fact the Twins are 5-1 in Martin Perez’s last six starts are more than enough for me to pull the trigger in a pick’em.
