Ho Ho Ho! Santa’s coming in a few weeks so he’s gonna need to hit a few races this week to be able to afford to bring gifts to all the boys and girls out there. He’s been playing our picks since December began and wants to keep the profit rolling in. Last Christmas he had to pawn off Mrs. Claus’s silverware. (Between you and I, I think Santa’s got a bit of a gambling problem, but who are we to judge?) We’ll do our best to continue making money for the fat man and all our merry members.
For Wednesday we’ll get the week started with racing from Gulfstream Park where we actually expect rain all day. I’ve handicapped accordingly in the event the turf races are rained to polytrack.
Wednesday picks for Gulfstream Park:
Race 1: Adios Senor - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/1)
Sprinters go 6 furlongs in this maiden claiming event and Nureyev’s Dream will be a deserving favorite here off a narrow defeat last time out. That one also has the controlling speed from the inside and he’ll probably be odds on. Adios Senor is a bit intriguing breaking from the outside. Not only is he likely to have longer odds, but his debut race down at Tampa in March was impressive. Adios Senor was carried in early and had to take up at the 1/2 mile pole. Not an easy thing for a first timer to overcome but he was motoring late to be second. He’s been laid off since that race with only one published workout but this runner’s Tomlinson says he’s got some talent despite the lower level claiming price. May get overlooked in all the hoopla surrounding the favorites.
Race 3: Maria’s Revenge - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)
Turf fillies go a mile on the lawn and with rain in the forecast for most of the day I’m siding with a runner with both turf and polytrack form. Maria’s Revenge actually has very good form on both surfaces and closed very wide for a runner up finish on polytrack last time out. Low profile connections ensure more than fair odds here and she’s already defeated a few of the runners in here. Value play.

Race 8: Cable Channel - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/1)
Turf sprinters close out our day and with only a single win to his credit, Cable Channel will have to prove he’s up to the task while facing a group of more established runners with more wins to their credit (mostly). The good news is that he’s been facing better than these and he should have the pace setup. With rain in the forecast and the potential that this will get moved to the polytrack some may worry that he’s never run on that surface but his sire, English Channel has had plenty of polytrack winners so that’s no concern for me. At 5/1 odds or higher, he’s worth a long look.
Best of luck to everyone playing Wednesday’s races from Gulfstream Park!
