Sunday’s Race Recap from Belmont Park:

(All odds US)

All Belmont Park replays can be found here:

Race 3: 6th@ 5.00-1

Race 6: 3rd@ 6.50-1

Race 7: SCRATCH

Race 9: 8th@ 19.70-1

We completed a rainy, sloppy day at Belmont. In Race 3, our selection - School of Thought, didn’t have a good return to the races as she ended up being eased in the lane. Our selection in Race 6 - Tremendous made a strong move turning for home but was passed in the lane by Tapit’s Flashback. Our BEST BET - Grumps Little Tots was a scratch out of Race 7 and in Race 9, Roxen didn’t look like she handled the off going.

With the Belmont Park surface drying out on Monday we’re going to Churchill Downs and Gulfstream Park for some BONUS MEMORIAL DAY RACING.

Let’s get to work!

Memorial Day Picks

Churchill Downs:

Race 4: She’s a Deal - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 8-1)
Maiden claimers go a mile-and-a-sixteenth on dirt and of the 8 runners here here look to be three main contenders. Our likely favorite is Take Charge Patti who has done most of her best running on turf and sheds blinkers for today’s start - a move her trainer is 0 for 3 with. Henny’s Crazy Train will also take money making her second start but her trainer is 0 for his last 37 with second time runners. She’s a Deal at overlaid 8-1 morning line odds is only one point behind our morning line favorite in having the top dirt speed figure in the race. In 8 dirt starts she’s run second thrice and third four times and she’s done well at this track and distance as well.

Race 5: Misty Veil - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6-1)

Claiming fillies race on turf here and our likely favorite, Jazzy Lady, likes to close from far back but there’s not much pace lined up here so she’ll be at a disadvantage. Misty Veil on the other hand drops out of a winning effort which she was claimed from. She’ll be running first time turf today but these connections win 33% together this meet and she has two works since her last to prep her for this. If she’s allowed a loose lead again she’ll be tough to gun down.

Race 8: Li’l Tootsie - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 9/5)

Tough little field of allowance runners here and Li’l Tootsie appears to be the class of this field. Her two most recent starts were decent efforts against Grade 2 company. Connections win together 27% of the time and trainer is winning at 29% at this meet. Gets Lasix back and that’s something she hasn’t had in her two most recent starts. Will be tough to deny closing from the back.

Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: Viva - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 20-1)

We’re going BOMBS 💣 AWAY!! to start the day as maiden claimers go a mile on dirt and our heavy 7/5 morning line favorite has never been this far, isn’t bred to go this far and has lost her two most recent starts by a combined margin of 20 lengths. On paper, Viva’s form looks terrible. Two turf starts and finished last both times. A barn switch to a low percentage trainer too. BUT, looking at her two most recent workouts it certainly looks as though she’s woken up in the mornings. Her May 18 workout of 34.4 was sizzling and her May 29 workout was the fastest of 62. She’s been running on turf but her Tomlinson figure of 213 says she’s not bred for it. Maybe she’s been destined for dirt all along. Trainer and jock teamed up to win one in 2019 at odds of 15-1. Maybe, just maybe she gets a loose early lead and can keep them all at bay.

Race 10: Everesting - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 3-1)

We close out the month with maiden claimers racing on turf and I liked Everesting last time but he raced a little erratically and had no punch in the lane. Trainer Saffie Joseph (winning at a 30% right now) adds blinkers - a move he wins with 22% of the time and drops this runner in for a claiming tag which is a move he wins with a whopping 46% of the time. He employs his top rider here and has three works since his most recent start. He’s another that will be awfully tough to run down with a clear early lead.

Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀 to all our members playing Monday’s races from Churchill Downs and Gulfstream Park!
