Good morning Betting Gods Team! A big welcome to our members, new and old. We’ve made it to Kentucky Derby week which is one of our favorite times of year.

Of course when we were just blogging for Betting Gods back in 2019 we correctly predicted the winning trifecta which paid $22,950 for a $2 bet. Last year, our selections finished 2nd and 4th so this year we’re out for vengeance!

Here’s a list of Kentucky Derby runners along with their post positions which were drawn just a few hours ago so members can start formulating their opinions:

Before we get to the weekend of great racing action, we’ve got a Wednesday racing card from Churchill Downs to get through. There’s a 30% chance of rain in the forecast so keep an eye on the sky!

Wednesday Picks

Churchill Downs:

Race 8: Quixotic - 1 pt win

Allowance runners sprint 6 furlongs here and our morning line favorite - He’s in Charge - lugged in so badly in his last start at odds on favoritism that it cost him the win. Our morning line second choice, The Big Kahuna, hasn’t been seen since November of 2019. So we’re taking a shot with another layoff runner named Quixotic, a runner the owners paid $300,000 for back in 2018. After winning impressively second time out he was entered in Stakes company where he faded and hasn’t been seen since. Something obviously went wrong there but trainer Jonathan Thomas is winning at a ROBUST 36% this year with his runners and wins with 29% of runners returning off similar layoffs. He’s been working well and was actually gelded back in August. Logically, you wouldn’t geld a horse you paid $300k unless he really really needed it but they’re bringing him back against allowance company so I’m expecting a strong return.

Race 10: Bear Alley - 2 pts win - BEST BET

High-level maiden claimers run a mile and a sixteenth here and I began looking at this race with an eye on beating the favorite and by the time I wrapped up, I was making the favorite my day’s BEST BET. How could this happen!? Well, Bear Alley’s most recent dirt start was him getting blown out in the Ohio Derby. That muddied up form may help his price today as his dirt start prior to that is enough to take care of this field pretty easily. In his most recent start back in March 12, Bear Alley raced on turf against a competitive field including 4 next out winners and a next out runner-up (from the 5 runners that have raced back so far). Trainer Dale Romans wins at 17% with maiden special weights dropping into maiden claiming races and this runner should have enough speed to get a tactical advantage right from the start.

Best of luck to all our members playing Wednesday’s races from Churchill Downs !!

Sunday’s Race Recap from Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: 1st@ 1.30-1 (US ODDS) - BEST BET🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 3: 2nd@ 20.80-1 (US ODDS)

Race 5: 7th@ 3.00-1 (US ODDS)

We closed out the week with another BEST BET winner when Happy Interest led off the day with an EEEEEASY score. Mama Longlegs almost capped our weekend with an EXCLAMATION POINT after leading into the stretch at odds of 20-1 but she was reeled in and continued on well to finish 2nd. Our first timer in Race 5 had a tough trip but honestly didn’t look like she was winning anyway.

We finished the week going 7 for 13 and we’ve got some solid momentum headed into Kentucky Derby week!
