Congratulations to Garrity yesterday for going 2-0. I got off the schneid with a place bet and had another scratch. Today will be another make up race.
We’ll go to Churchill Downs and Mountaineer Park in New Cumberland, WV.
$32K Claimers, 4yo+NWs going seven furlongs
#4 Lionite (3/1) going for three wins in a row, this five year old son of Quality Road has spent the ¾’s of the past year in and out of the Asmussen Barn. The connections have since claimed and moved him to the care of John Ortiz. His last was a win at this level two weeks ago and in the claiming jail rules game, he must run for a greater amount than last, if it’s withing thirty days. He is in form and should be a viable contender.
#3 Petrov (9/2) getting a class drop and a positive jockey change to Tyler Gafflione. Two back, he encountered heavy traffic to get up for show after giving a strong late kick. The extra ½ furlong will be a bonus today. He is 7:1-1-1 at CD for $10.6K per, far better than any other in this.
#6 Courting A Kiss (5/1) has our best overall class and best two last cumulatively. This is his second race after a layoff and the added distance will be a bonus.
#2 Street To Indy (8/5) Diodoro/Cohen connections hitting at 23%. He may be the lone speed in this and the cutback in distance can make the rest of the field play catch up. Notwithstanding the race three back where he refused to run in the slop, this Street Sense gelding has had a solid 2020 campaign earning $15K per race.
My pick: #3 Petrov – it’s tough to deny the positive jockey change, the class drop and his affinity for Churchill. $7/w and $13/p
$81K Allowance for fillies and mares, 3yo+ NWx or NW2
#8 Fashionable Lady (4/1) and #4 Elle Z (9/2) both are winners in their first time out and both moving up in class. Whereas backing a second time starter, especially ones whom have won and outrun Equibases’ par, Fashionable Lady has not run in a year and both are running without Lasix today. For that, I’ll pass.
#9 Lead Guitar (3/1) is 4:1-2-1 lifetime for $19.6 per time out and is racing unfer the tutelage of George Weaver who is 20% off the layoff and has had two brisk works recently. In his last at Keeneland this past fall, he blistered the track going 5.5f in 1:03.7, just missing by a head.
#10 Tulanian (12/1) is happy to have James Graham back. Graham has a win and two places on this filly and is facing older horses for the first time. She is one to keep in your exotics.
My pick: Lead Guitar. I’ll go $7/w and $13/p
$16.2K Allowance for WVa bred fillies and mares 3yo+ NW2 going 5.5f
Question: Will #3 Treasured Bond (6/5) lose? If you believe that this front runner who cuts back in distance and class is a vulnerable favorite, then yes. Personally, I believe she gets it done tonight.
My pick: $20 for Treasured Bond to win.
