Thoroughbreds Monday - McMudder Picks Parx, Delaware Park

Published on

Welcome to July and the start of the real racing season. From this day until the Breeder’s Cup, the plans are being put in place. So start thinking about outsiders that are progressing in the right direction. Wet Your Whistle, the Maryland-based horse that won the G1 Highlander at Woodbine on Saturday, is the kind of horse to start watching. Pick a stable of horses that are going in the right direction and start following them as they proceed towards bigger things. Equibase allows you to create a stable with notifications on works and entries. Use it to help. Good luck.

Weather: Sunny and warmer with possible late day showers.

Parx Race 2 (1:22 p.m. ET)

2-Love on Fire is the only runner coming into this race off a win but is 5-1 on the M/L. This one was running with better until that last race, which was seven months ago. Trainer Dee Curry is solid off the layoff. Both 6-Hide a Rose and 7-To the Flag have decent recent form but each of their last races left much to be desired. Top jockeys and connections help. 8-Lendar may have the most correct angles. This one is a reclaim for trainer Scott Lake and is running off a slightly longer break. The outside post allows for the pilot to have the most flexibility, especially since this one likes to stalk.

Parx Race 2
$10 W/P/S 8-Lendar
$2 Exacta box 2,8
$1 Trifecta box 2,6,7,8

Delaware Park Race 4 (2:45)

Can 8-Jagger Baby finally put it all together? Hard to embrace since she has gotten every advantage previously and still struggled. Jockey Trevor McCarthy is on fire so this one will get over bet leading to a search for value elsewhere. 1-Princess Nekia is coming in with the best last out speed figure and jockey Angel Suarez is winning at 20%. The problem is that trainer Jose Ramirez doesn’t win races. 2-Paz the Wine is definitely faster on turf but she doesn’t need to be much to be successful here.

Delaware Park Race 4
$10 W/P/S 1-Princess Nekia
$2 Exacta box 1,8
$1 Trifecta box 1,2,8

MICK’S QUICKIES

Parx Race 5 (2:43 p.m.)
10-Markhan has shown recent ability on both the flat and over hurdles. Play the recent form.

Parx Race 9 (4:31 p.m.)
3-Nanoosh appears to be a little better than stable mate 4-Zulu. Betting on trainer Jorge Navarro is always a solid proposition.

Delaware Race 1 (1:15 p.m.)
6-Cat Lak cuts back to a sprint. She has good gas and should benefit from the rail.

Delaware Race 5 (3:15 p.m.)
7-Shanghai Bonnie has tons of gas. Hope it lasts 5f.
