Thoroughbreds Thursday - McMudder Picks Races at Delaware Park
Rain, rain go away, come again another day . . . say another day in August when you are needed. The continued wet weather is wreaking havoc on the turf tracks all over the country with races taken off this week at every venue east of the Mississippi at least once. This is causing nightmares for racing secretaries, but it is a huge opportunity for punters. Look for solid off-track pedigrees making their first starts on a surface or find old pros returning to a preferred surface. Both are available. For today, Mick is only looking at main track races since there will be late, late scratches if the weather remains in limbo all day.
Weather: Storms over night may or may not linger. Turf may or may not be off. Track may or may not be sloppy. Mick may or may not scream about the weather.

Delaware Race 1 (1:15 p.m. ET)
3-High Roller has never won on an off track but he has run some good races and his best speed figure on off footing. The step up in class is muted by the change in venue but the connections are solid and win at 30% together. 5-Emmett’s Dream is first off the claim for a barn that wins at 29% with such. A return to two or three back puts this one in the discussion. 6-Ring Neck is the back class play here having run faster and more successfully than anyone else in the race . . . all at some point in the past. Solid with all track conditions, this one stands to improve off the freshening.
Delaware Race 1
$10 W/P/S 3-High Roller
$2 Exacta box 3,5
$1 Trifecta box 3,5,6

Delaware Race 8 (4:45 p.m.)
7-Aspect won a first level allowance last out and gets in here as a non 4 life (actually a non 3 but that’s not the race condition) and a repeat of that race gets the money here. The one previous race on the off going was not promising so these connections are hoping for clearing skies early. 2-Brighton Lane has been running with tougher . . . for a long time. Will the class relief put this one back in the winner’s circle? More likely to do what he does best at Delaware and that is run second. 3-Code Name Raven woke up after a long slumber in his last race and is capable of getting a piece with a repeat of that effort.
Delaware Race 8
$10 W/P/S 7-Aspect
$2 Exacta box 2,7
$1 Trifecta box 2,3,7

MICK’S QUICKIES
Delaware Race 6 (3:45 p.m.): 1-Accolade almost won at a higher level last out and gets a soft spot here. Definitely the best bred horse in the race.
Delaware Race 4 (2:45 p.m): 2-Sight of Heaven stands above these on virtually every metric and should move up off his only start. A Pecoraro exacta is in play here.
