Horse Racing: McMudder’s Monday Picks

Races at Parx
Published on

Good luck and look for smaller and smaller fields. Why? Parx is now quarantined due to an equine herpes outbreak so outbound shippers won’t happen and inbound will be diminished since those horses will need to stay on the backstretch at Parx for the foreseeable future. This should help the locals with deep benches since they will get more favorable races to fill.

Picks for Jan. 14, 2019:

Following Sunday’s snow, the big questions revolve around temperatures going forward. If daytime temperatures melt the surface snow, expect fast come Monday. BUT if the temperatures are cold, a frozen track with snow harrowed in is just as likely. Horses that don’t like kick back on good days REALLY dislike it when it is frozen.

Parx Race 3
Open $25K claimers for 3-year-old boys. Many of these were well intentioned early in their careers with allowance and Stake appearances but they all end up here on questionable form cycles. The last out winners both did it against weak fields and everyone else got thumped last out. The last out winner with the best promise is 4-Vegas Tycoon. This well bred son of Malibu Moon cost Mike Repole $190K and spent his early career with Todd Pletcher so connections were hoping for a lot more than a $25K race at Parx. If speed is holding, he will be very tough to catch.
Pick: $10 W 4-Vegas Tycoon

Parx Race 6
Open $16K for fillies and mares. This race came up tough with several classy mares looking to maintain excellent form cycles. The challenge is about picking who can see out the route. Many of these have been coming up short recently. 3-Elnarth has been closing and looks well suited to pick up the pieces in this one and pay well doing so. Michael Moore is 18+% 2nd off the claim, a positive angle here.
Pick: $10 W/P/S 3-Elnarth

And now for some quickies….

Parx Race 8
3-Novus
will get a new rider after Trevor McCarthy got banged up on Saturday at Laurel. Look for Tres Abbott to put a patient pilot on board to help this one get the trip.

Parx Race 10
6-Aggregator
moves to Kate Demasi for this one after the claim last out. She is a very solid 18% off the claim and Mychel Sanchez wins at 23% for her, too. He wins or finishes up the track.
