Hard Rock AC to offer peeks at Valli with ‘Jersey Boys’ residency
In what is clearly a show biz match made in heaven, Hard Rock Hotel Casino Atlantic City Friday afternoon announced it is bringing “Jersey Boys” to its Sound Wave theater for a four-week run beginning June 25.
According to Hard Rock CEO Joe Lupo, the Broadway behemoth based on the lives and careers of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, is a natural for the casino gaming realm.
“We’ve seen the same people at the Frankie Valli shows over and over again, just like you hear about the people who see ‘Jersey Boys’ over and over again,” said Lupo.
“It just resonates so well in the tri-state region. [The booking] made a lot of sense.”
“Jersey Boys,” which boasts a jukebox full of Four Seasons signatures including “Dawn,” “Rag Doll,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like A Man,” details the often- dramatic rise of the Newark-born vocal quartet that lived at the top of the pop charts in the early and mid-1960s. It opened on Broadway in 2005 and ran for 11 years, winning four Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Friday’s announcement at the Hard Rock featured Valli, 80, who is performing at the casino Friday and Saturday nights. Preceding his arrival, the performers who comprise the Hard Rock “Jersey Boys” cast performed a set of tunes from the show.
