The Wednesday Philly Props -- Phillies, Cardinals, Bryce Harper, Genesis Cabrera

Published on

Welcome to the big leagues, Genesis Cabrera!

The St. Louis Cardinals left-hander will make his Major League debut Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies. He will be the third opposing LH starter to begin his career at CBP, joining Toronto’s Brad Mills on June 18, 2009 and Washington’s John Lannan on July 26, 2007.

We know that none of that matters as it relates to this game, but a little history can be an interesting thing.

For instance, both of those games mentioned above were high-scoring victories (8-7, 7-6) by Phillies teams that were heading to the postseason. Hmmm . . . maybe it does matter.

Aaron “Who Knows” Nola will be taking the mound for the Fightin’s. His numbers have settled down in his last seven starts (ERA falling from 7.45 to 4.53), but he has not made it into the seventh inning in May.

That gives us the impetus to play the Total Over as well as the Phillies Over and throw in a little Bryce Harper (3 HR in 59 AB vs. LHP) upper-deck remembrance for the 22-year-old Cabrera, whom we and baseball-reference.com belive to be the first Genesis (yeah, we went there) in MLB history.

Pick: Phillies-Cardinals Over 10 Runs (-108)
Pick: Phillies Over 5.5 Runs (-103)
Pick: Bryce Harper to Home (+310)
