A brief announcement before today’s investment advice. Since it should be obvious that my genius doesn’t just stop because the WNBA season ends, the editors of BettorsInsider.com have made the wise decision to request I continue dispensing that genius in other areas. So have no fear I’ll stop making you money past women’s basketball. Starting next week, I’ll be assisting your portfolios with picks for the NBA and next month, the NCAA (with a focus on the ACC and Ivy League). I might even have some more interesting things for you to read, too; I’ll keep you posted. So thanks for reading me so far, and for continuing to as the days get shorter and we all need gambling winnings for the holidays…
Seattle O’Sullivan so far: 143-119-1
Phoenix Mercury at Chicago Sky, 3 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix +5.5 (-120)
Chicago smacked Phoenix in the mouth on Friday, blowing the Mercury out 86-50. I’ve been confident the Sky are winning this series for the last week. So why am I taking Phoenix today? It’s not because I necessarily think the Sky will lose; I could see them taking the championship today. I just think it’s too many points. Obviously, the Mercury have to win today, and despite Friday’s pasting, I don’t see them just giving up and rolling over. Chicago held them to 25.8% shooting and a terrible 5-20 from three-point range, and though it was good defense, I just don’t see Phoenix shooting that poorly again today. I still believe Mercury star Diana Taurasi is tired, but I don’t see her going 1-10 from the field (1-8 from three) with everything on the line. The “positive” aspect of getting blown out by 30 is, you can rest your starters a bit, which the Mercury more than needed. Also, Sky guard Kahleah Copper had a fantastic game on Friday, scoring 22 points on 6-10 shooting. I don’t think she’ll have as good a game today. I think Chicago could win outright but I’m not confident enough to try to “middle” it. I’ll stick with banking on the Mercury’s pride.
