Las Vegas Aces at Atlanta Dream, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta +12.5 (-115)
(shrug) It’s a lot of points, and it’s a “home dog” alert. In their last matchup in Las Vegas, the Aces blew out the Dream 118-95. But Atlanta was only down three at halftime. Since returning from the Olympic break, Las Vegas has not looked like itself, playing two tight games against the Mystics at home and then getting smacked by the Sun in Connecticut. The Dream can score a lot of points: 81.0 per game. (shrug) It’s a lot of points.
Los Angeles Sparks at Connecticut Sun, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Connecticut -11.5 (-114)
This almost falls under the “they can’t make this line high enough” category. Los Angeles has the worst scoring offense in the WNBA, while Connecticut has the best defense. The Sparks’ defense is second, but still gives up more than seven points a game than the Sun. Both teams have won four of their last five. I don’t care - the Sparks’ four wins have come against Atlanta (twice, and they should’ve lost both), Indiana, and New York. The Sun’s last four wins have all been by double-digits against much better teams. Connecticut is 5-1 against the spread in their last six, 9-3 against the spread at home, and I just don’t like the Sparks. So there’s a little bit of spite in there, yeah. Feel free to profit off it.
Dallas Wings at Washington Mystics, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Dallas +3.5 (-106)
I’m sitting across a coffee shop table from Dallas. We’ve been here an hour but neither of us has said much. We both sip our coffee, unable to hold eye contact, looking out the picture window. Deep down, we both know this isn’t working. Finally, I clear my throat and say, “You’ve had four days' rest; Washington’s only had one.” The Wings nod. I nod, then say, “You’re still third in the league in scoring offense, you know that, right? You know you're still in the playoff hunt, right?” The Wings nod. There’s a long pause. I sigh, and try to give a supportive look. “Okay,” I say. “You’re getting 3.5 points. I can give you one more chance.” Dallas nods, and tries to smile, then sips their coffee. Deep down, we both know it may already be too late, and I know, I’m already using Washington in a moneyline parlay. I’m hedging my bets.
