We are already into Week 5 of the Premier League season, which seems very crazy.
But the world is a crazy place now, so why should European football be any different?
This is the first midweek round of matches (the first of many with the World Cup coming up in November and December), and we are going to start to see some wacky results. That might have started on the weekend with the 9-0 win for Liverpool against a Bournemouth team that probably had to pick and choose its spots in the lineup with three matches in eight days.
That is one of the reasons I like Chelsea today: the Blues are just a deeper team than Southampton, who had a lot of very young (and impressive) players in the lineup over the weekend in the 1-0 loss to Manchester United.
Leeds United, which have now become the darlings of NBC, will once again be the televised game on USA. Leeds will take on Everton, which then has to take on Stanley Park rivals Liverpool Saturday morning.
The two other games could be very interesting: Crystal Palace gave Manchester City issues until Erling Haland went bonkers, and the Eagles get Brentford Tuesday. Fulham will also take on red-hot Brighton & Hove Albion, and the Seagulls can go top of the table with a victory.
