Lille looks to move six points clear in France, while RB Leipzig can cut lead at top of Bundesliga to two points
When was the last time we had a shock winner in Ligue 1?
Since PSG became ultra-rich (seven titles since 2012), and between Lyon’s seven year reign (2001-02 to 2007-087), there have been five other winners of the French top flight. Monaco won in 2017 thanks to Kylian Mbappe, but you have to go back to 2009-2012, when four different teams won the title: Bordeaux 2009, Marseille 2010, Lille 2011, and Montpellier 2012. The final two teams really came out of nowhere, especially Montpellier, which had never won the top flight in its history.
Right now, Lille is trying to replicate what it did 10 years ago, and win another Ligue 1 crown. It can go six clear of PSG with a win over Montpellier Friday, and put all the pressure on a PSG team that is focused on the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
In Germany, RB Leipzig can cut the gap at the top to two points with a win over Hoffenheim.
