It is getting tight at both ends of the Premier League.
With eight matches left for the teams playing matches Sunday, time is running out for Cardiff City to make a move out of the relegation zone. The Bluebirds currently sit in 18th, but do not have to worry about either team behind them in the table.
Huddersfield Town (14 points) was relegated back to the EFL Championship yesterday after another abysmal showing, while Fulham (17 points) will be joining the Terriers Tuesday.
Cardiff City has two games in hand on 17th place Burnley (33 points). Burnley also has to run the gauntlet in its final four games: Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton, and Arsenal. Cardiff City also gets a chance to play Burnley head to head on April 13.
But that is the future; Sunday, the Bluebirds host Chelsea, and a win would put Cardiff just two points behind Burnley. But Chelsea is in its own battle right now. The Blues are on 57 points, just four points off of third spot. A victory for Chelsea would see the top four race have just one point between third through sixth, before Arsenal’s match Monday.
In the other Premier League contest, second place Liverpool will take on third place Tottenham. Manchester City’s win Saturday allowed it ti jump back into top spot, while Manchester United’s victory has it even on 61 points with the Hotspurs.
As the pressure cranks up on both teams, we may see some mistakes on the pitch today, which could lead to goals. Both teams have powerful attacks, but have been suspect at times on the other end. Look for goals for both teams.
PSG and Real Madrid should both roll as heavy favorites.
