3 Reasons to Bet on the Edmonton Oilers to Beat the Florida Panthers in Game 5

The NHL Stanley Cup Finals is heading into Game 5 with the Panthers over the Oilers 3-1. Despite this, we think the Oilers will win it out and here's why.

The Edmonton Oilers are facing elimination in their series against the Florida Panthers, with the Panthers leading 3-1. The first 3 games were rough for the Alberta team, but they came out hot in game 4. Despite the slump, there are several reasons to believe that the Oilers can pull off a victory in Game 5 and beyond to possibly win the Stanley Cup.

1. They're Hungry and Backed into a Corner

The Oilers are a team known for their offense (more on that in a minute) and determination. We’re not just talking about the playoffs but throughout the season, especially when the odds are stacked against them. With the series currently standing at 3-1 in favor of the Panthers, the Oilers are undoubtedly feeling the pressure.

However, it's precisely this situation that can bring out the best in a team and we’re witnessing this with the Oilers.

In Game 4, the Oilers showcased their fighting spirit by dominating the Panthers with a mind-blowing 8-1 victory. Frankly, it surprised everyone, even the Panther’s goalie Sergei Bobrovsky who was pulled in the second period after allowing 5 goals over 16 shots. That's not a good look for Bobrovsky, but then again, this is the Oiler's offense we're talking about.

This win not only kept their playoff hopes alive but also demonstrated their ability to perform under the do-or-die pressure.

When a team is backed into a corner, the hunger to survive and advance can be a powerful motivator and the Oilers demonstrated that. Think of them as a rabid animal in a cage. The Oilers have a roster full of players who thrive in these high-stakes moments, and their recent performance highlights their never-say-die attitude. On top of that, they wouldn't be the first NHL team to come back from a 3-0 deficit.

Connor McDavid, widely regarded by most fans as the best player in the NHL, if not the world, embodies this relentless drive. His leadership inspires the entire team to elevate their game. Whatever he said in the locker room to the rest of the players must have triggered something because they've turned it into overdrive.

Alongside McDavid, players like Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also have a history of stepping up when it matters most.

This collective hunger for the Cup and the dire situation they find themselves in make the Oilers the team to bet on in Game 5.

2. Talent like McDavid and Offensive Firepower

One of the biggest reasons to bet on the Oilers is their offensive firepower. It’s the best we’ve seen in a long time. Led by none other than Connor McDavid, this team is known for having an explosive front line.

McDavid's elite skill, speed, and scoring ability make him a game-changing superstar, as we see in game 4. He has the unique capability to turn the tide of a game almost single-handedly. His performance in Game 4, where he racked up 4 points in the team's 8-1 victory, is a clear indication of his potential to dominate.

Leon Draisaitl, who had 2 points in game 4 and is McDavid's partner in crime, is another reason to be excited about the Oilers' chances. Together, they form one of the most lethal duos in the league, especially during the Stanley Cup Finals. Draisaitl's ability to score and create plays makes him a constant threat to any defense, and the Panther’s D found that out firsthand. His knack for delivering in clutch situations, coupled with McDavid's brilliance, gives the Oilers quite an edge that few teams can match.

The Oilers' offense is more than just McDavid and Draisaitl, though, they're the big names on the line. The team has a wealth of talent, including promising young players like Dylan Holloway. Holloway's crucial goal in Game 6 of the previous series and his 2 goals in Game 4 showcased his potential to make a difference in big games, and every game going forward is a big game. He’s stepping up at the right time.

The Oilers' depth in offensive talent means they can sustain pressure on the Panthers throughout the game, keeping the momentum firmly in their favor, especially heading into game 5 with everything on the line.

3. Skinner Can Be a Brick Wall

Goaltending is often the deciding factor in playoff hockey, and the Oilers have a star in Stuart Skinner.

Despite not being his usual self in games 1-3, Skinner's performance in Game 4 was nothing short of spectacular. With 33 shots against him and only one making it past him, he boasted a .970 save percentage. That’s unbelievable in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. This is exactly what the Oilers need if they want to keep frustrating the Panthers' offense.

Skinner's stepping up at the right time has been a game-changer for the Oilers. Throughout the playoffs, he has consistently outplayed his counterparts (aside from this series), delivering clutch saves and maintaining composure under pressure. His ability to stand tall, even against a well-rounded Panthers team, gives the Oilers a significant advantage in tight games. Game 5 will be much tighter than Game 4, but we’re confident in Skinner’s abilities.

If the offense can keep the puck at the other end of the ice and Skinner does what he does the rest of the time, the Oilers should have no problem pushing this series to at least game 6.

Bet on the Edmonton Oilers to Win Game 5

As the Edmonton Oilers prepare for Game 5 against the Florida Panthers, there are several big reasons to believe they can secure a victory to keep the series alive and their Stanley Cup dreams in sight.

Their hunger and determination, fueled by the pressure of an elimination game, can drive them to exceptional performances. With offensive superstars like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the charge, the Oilers have the firepower to dominate. On top of that, Stuart Skinner's stellar goaltending at the right time provides a solid foundation for their success.

Betting on the Oilers to win Game 5 is not just a hopeful gamble — it is a calculated decision based on their recent performance and the undeniable talent within their ranks. We think they’re going to keep the momentum up as they head into game 5 to bring the series within reach at 3-2. It’ll take a lot of work, and yes, Florida has the home-ice advantage, but this team has too much going for them not to place a bet on them.

We wouldn’t recommend a puck-line bet as this is going to be much closer than game 4, but a moneyline shouldn’t be disregarded.
