Mims' Thursday Night Football Pick: Chargers vs Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert props, and over/under

Mahomes is expected play with a sore wrist. Keenan Allen is out for the Chargers.

Robert Mims

Thursday Night Football features the Kansas City Chiefs against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs are the home team. The Chargers are coming in off an impressive win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chargers split the season series last year against the Chiefs. The Chiefs dominated the Arizona Cardinals in week one by a score of 44-21.

The Numbers: Chiefs are favored by 4 points and the total is 54. The Money line is Chiefs -210 and Chargers +175.

Coaching Match Up: Andy Reid over Brandon Staley. Reid  has more than 20 years of head coaching experience and has led his teams to the Super Bowl three times.  Staley is in his first NFL head coaching position.

Injury Report: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes cited soreness in his wrist earlier in the week. He is expected to play. Keenan Allen, wide receiver for the Chargers has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Player Props: Mahomes over 2.5 TDs. The price is +106. I don’t expect another 5 TD performance, but I do see 3. Take him over.  Justin Herbert over 37.5 passing attempts. The price is -129. Chargers must be aggressive to stay in the game so take him over.

The Action: 64% of the action is on the Chiefs. 75% of the total money is on the over.

The Selection: Chiefs lost the home game last year against the Chargers by a score of 30-24. With Allen out, the Chiefs have the advantage of facing the Chargers without a key offensive threat. Take the Chiefs -4 and the game over. Over the last 4 years, 56% of the Chiefs games have gone over.
