NFL QB Breakdown: Eckel examines the NFC East — Daniel Jones or Colt McCoy? Joe Judge won't say

This series is a division by division look at the situation for the most important position in the game — today we look at the NFC East

Mark Eckel

There has never been an NFL offseason quite like this one when it comes to quarterbacks. One of the greatest of all time switched teams, another sure Hall of Famer stayed put, while two other Super Bowl MVPs are on the trade block along with another who has gotten to a Super Bowl. A No. 1 overall pick will also be moved and a No. 2 overall pick already has moved. Here is a division by division look at the situation for the most important position in the game.

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott was given the franchise tag, so he’s not going anywhere, and the team will attempt to work out a long-term deal between now and whenever the season begins. Cooper Rush is the back-up, but the Cowboys could spend a mid-round draft pick to bring in some competition for that spot.

New York Giants: It’s very strange that new head coach Joe Judge, who I’m told has more personnel power than either of the team’s last two head coaches, won’t say Daniel Jones is his starter. It will be quite a shock if he isn’t. But Jones isn’t as good as some Giants fans think. The team just signed Colt McCoy, who is a very solid backup.

Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz is the face, and future, of the franchise. He has as much say as any player on the team has had in years. The team re-signed backup Nate Sudfeld, but there are still rumors of another veteran being added to the mix. If that’s true, why sign Sudfeld?

Washington Redskins: It’s going to be interesting to see how the new coaching staff under Ron Rivera feels about 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins. There’s been none of the usual glowing praise that usually occurs. McCoy left to sign with the Giants, and Case Keenum did the same for the Browns. So, a veteran backup is sorely needed.
